Farmers Can Insure Kharif Crops Until August 14 as Crop Insurance Deadline Extended

Agriculture Department urges farmers to secure crops against natural disasters under PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Farmers in Rajnandgaon district can now insure their Kharif crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) until August 14, 2026, following an extension of the enrollment deadline. The earlier deadline of July 31, 2026 has been extended, allowing both loanee and non-loanee farmers additional time to avail themselves of the crop insurance scheme.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Tikam Singh Thakur said the PMFBY serves as a crucial financial safety net for farmers against unpredictable weather conditions. The scheme provides compensation for crop losses caused by natural calamities such as drought, floods, waterlogging, hailstorms, and other weather-related disasters.

Farmers Eligible to Insure Multiple Kharif Crops

Farmers can obtain insurance coverage for the following notified Kharif crops:

  • Paddy (Irrigated)
  • Paddy (Rainfed)
  • Maize
  • Soybean
  • Groundnut
  • Pigeon Pea (Arhar)
  • Black Gram (Urad)
  • Green Gram (Moong)
  • Kodo Millet
  • Kutki Millet
  • Finger Millet (Ragi)

Both land-owning farmers and sharecroppers are eligible to enroll under the scheme.

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Bank Passbook
  • Loan Book (for loanee farmers)
  • Self-declaration or Sowing Certificate

  • Scheduled Banks
  • Agriculture Insurance Company of India (AIC)
  • Common Service Centres (CSCs)

The Agriculture Department has urged all eligible farmers in the district to complete their crop insurance registration before August 14, 2026, to protect their crops and income from financial losses caused by natural disasters.
