In a significant step toward strengthening urban development and housing infrastructure, the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has passed the Chhattisgarh Housing Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026 by voice vote. The bill, introduced by Finance Minister OP Choudhary, aims to expand the scope and capabilities of the state’s housing body.

As part of the amendment, the Chhattisgarh Housing Board will now be renamed as the Chhattisgarh Housing and Infrastructure Development Board, marking a transition toward a more modern, multi-dimensional infrastructure agency. The move is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating residential and urban infrastructure projects across the state.

Speaking in the Assembly, Finance Minister OP Choudhary highlighted that the board was originally constituted under the Madhya Pradesh Housing Board Act, 1972, and has been instrumental in delivering affordable housing and urban infrastructure since the formation of the state.

He informed that over the past two years, projects worth approximately ₹3,050 crore have been launched, covering 78 new initiatives. Additionally, the state government has cleared loans worth ₹735 crore, making the board debt-free. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY 2.0), approval has been granted for the construction of 2,000 EWS (Economically Weaker Section) housing units.

The minister further stated that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for six redevelopment projects worth over ₹650 crore have been prepared. During the state-level housing fair held in November 2025, 56 new projects worth ₹2,060 crore were launched, resulting in the booking of 2,517 properties and allocation of 1,477 units.

Currently, the board is operational in 27 out of 33 districts of Chhattisgarh. With ongoing procedural reforms, efforts are being made to ensure simultaneous property registration and physical possession. Moreover, the board has demonstrated its technical capacity by constructing government housing units across 146 development blocks at a cost of ₹858 crore.

The government has also outlined plans to develop an integrated urban corridor connecting Raipur, Naya Raipur, Bhilai–Durg, and Rajnandgaon, where the revamped board is expected to play a pivotal role.

Reacting to the passage of the bill, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the reform would provide new direction and momentum to housing and infrastructure development in the state. He emphasized that expanding the board’s mandate will help ensure planned urbanization and provide quality, affordable housing to citizens.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said that with the guiding principle of “Sankalp Se Siddhi,” Chhattisgarh is moving toward structured urban growth, improved connectivity, and modern infrastructure, positioning itself as a strong and developed state in the coming years.
