Madhya Pradesh: A chilling case of sexual assault, blackmail, and attempted forced religious conversion has left the nation stunned, involving a minor Class 11 student from a reputed school in the city’s Shahpura area. The victim, a teenage girl, was allegedly raped multiple times inside four different vehicles by two men who recorded the acts and used the footage to extort money while pressuring her to convert to Islam.

According to police investigations, the prime accused, Ausaf Ali Khan (also reported as Osaf or Osali Ali Khan, aged around 19-20), befriended the girl through mutual contacts. The assaults reportedly began last year, with the initial incident occurring in a secluded area where Ausaf allegedly raped her inside a Mahindra Thar SUV. His accomplice, Mohammad Maaz Khan (also spelled Maj or Maz Khan, aged 21-23), a local gym owner, filmed the crime from outside using a mobile phone. The video was later weaponized to blackmail the victim, demanding ₹1 lakh and threatening to make it viral if she refused.

The girl, terrified and under immense pressure, managed to pay ₹40,000 but the harassment continued. When she attempted to block them and end contact, the accused escalated by sharing the video with her friends and intensifying threats, including demands to recite the Kalma, perform namaz, and convert her religion. Police sources indicate the repeated assaults took place across four luxury vehicles, all of which have now been seized as evidence, including the Thar SUV.The victim filed a complaint at Kohefiza Police Station in early February, leading to swift arrests.

Ausaf Ali Khan was apprehended on February 3 and remanded to judicial custody, while Maaz Khan was arrested on February 8 and held in police remand initially. Charges have been slapped under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, sections related to rape, extortion, criminal intimidation, the Information Technology Act for digital blackmail, and provisions under the Freedom of Religion Act for the alleged conversion coercion.

In a dramatic courtroom development, Ausaf was reportedly thrashed by a group of lawyers and onlookers during a court appearance in Bhopal’s district court, highlighting the public outrage over the crime. Police intervened to protect him amid the chaos, and the incident went viral, sparking debates on instant justice versus legal process.Recognizing the gravity and potential serial nature of the crime, the Madhya Pradesh government under Chief Minister Mohan Yadav promptly constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional Commissioner of Police Ankita Khatarkar.

The SIT is tasked with a thorough probe to ascertain how the victim came into contact with the accused, verify if other girls were similarly targeted, and uncover any larger conspiracy. This move draws parallels to historical cases like the 1992 Ajmer scandal, where multiple victims were allegedly exploited through blackmail. The case has ignited widespread shock and calls for stricter punishment in crimes involving minors and religious coercion.

Authorities have emphasized zero tolerance for such acts, with ongoing forensic examination of seized phones and vehicles to gather more evidence. The victim’s identity remains protected as per legal norms, and support mechanisms are in place for her counseling and rehabilitation.

This horrific incident once again underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety measures for young girls, vigilant parental and societal oversight in digital interactions, and swift justice in sensitive cases blending sexual violence with extortion and communal angles. As the SIT digs deeper, the nation watches closely for answers and accountability in what has emerged as one of Bhopal’s most disturbing recent crimes
