Sufficient quantities of fertilizers for the Kharif 2026 season have been stocked in cooperative societies across the district. The government has also issued instructions for fertilizer distribution to farmers through POS machines from April 30, 2026. Adequate storage has been ensured in advance as per the demand for fertilizers used not only in paddy cultivation but also in pulses and oilseed crops during the upcoming Kharif season.
Awareness Campaign on Balanced Fertilizer Usage
Through field-level agricultural officers, the Agriculture Department is conducting awareness campaigns encouraging farmers to avoid excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers. Farmers are being motivated to adopt biofertilizers, liquid urea, liquid DAP, nano urea, and nano DAP while keeping soil health in mind.
Instructions Issued to Societies and Fertilizer Dealers
Deputy Director Agriculture Tikam Singh Thakur has directed all cooperative societies and private fertilizer dealers to ensure that farmers do not face any difficulty in lifting fertilizers. Distribution must be carried out through POS machines as per the recommended quantities prescribed by Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, while maintaining proper records to prevent black marketing or unnecessary hoarding.
Fertilizer Availability Higher Than Previous Year
According to information received from the Agriculture Department, a total of 36,509 metric tonnes of fertilizers are currently available in the district. This includes 13,752 tonnes of urea, 3,350 tonnes of DAP, 9,806 tonnes of NPK, 3,422 tonnes of potash, and 6,179 tonnes of SSP stocked at cooperative and private centres. The present availability is nearly 40 percent higher compared to the same period last year.
Apart from urea, DAP, and potash, sufficient quantities of NPK, SSP, nano urea, and nano DAP have also been stored in cooperative societies this year.
Farmers Encouraged to Adopt Alternative Nutrient Options
Farmers generally apply urea, DAP, and potash as basal doses during paddy sowing. However, farmers have been advised that instead of DAP, they can use two bags of NPK fertilizers such as 12:32:16, 20:20:0:13, 16:16:16, 24:24:0, and 28:28:0 per acre to reduce urea consumption.
Cooperative societies and private dealers have been instructed to educate farmers about the benefits of NPK fertilizers as alternatives to DAP, along with the use of nano urea and nano DAP for top dressing.
Promotion of Blue-Green Algae Under ‘Dharti Mata Bachao’ Campaign
Under the “Dharti Mata Bachao” campaign, the Agriculture Department is running a public awareness drive to popularise the use of Blue-Green Algae among farmers. Farmers are being trained directly at field level regarding production and application techniques.
Blue-Green Algae is a biofertilizer that develops naturally in waterlogged fields and helps in nitrogen fixation by converting atmospheric nitrogen into soil nutrients. Its use reduces dependence on chemical urea and supports sustainable agriculture.
Appeal to Farmers for Balanced Fertilizer Use
The administration has ensured adequate availability and smooth distribution of fertilizers in the district in the interest of farmers. Farmers have been appealed to procure fertilizers as per their requirement from cooperative societies and private fertilizer sale centres and to adopt balanced nutrient management practices in accordance with soil health.
