In a grand display of public fervor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly felicitated by thousands of enthusiastic supporters during his visit to Purnea district in Bihar today, marking a significant boost to the state’s development trajectory. The event, held amidst vibrant cultural performances and chants of “Modi! Modi!”, underscored the Prime Minister’s enduring popularity in the poll-bound state.

Addressing a massive rally, Modi highlighted the transformative power of the “double-engine” government, announcing the inauguration and foundation stone laying of multiple development projects worth approximately Rs 36,000 crore, aimed at propelling Bihar towards self-reliance and prosperity.

PM Modi Felicitated Amidst Cheers in Purnea: Launches Rs 36,000 Crore Development Bonanza for Bihar 000 Crore Projects

The visit comes months ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, expected in October-November 2025, and is seen as a strategic outreach by the BJP-led NDA to consolidate its base in the Seemanchal region, a key battleground known for its diverse demographics and agricultural richness. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who oversaw preparations, lauded the initiative, stating, “In his 11 years, PM Modi has gifted Bihar projects worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore. Today’s bonanza is yet another testament to the fruits of the double-engine sarkar.”

The crowd’s resounding applause echoed this sentiment, with local farmers and youth hailing Modi as the architect of Bihar’s revival. At the heart of the announcements is the establishment of the National Makhana Board, a landmark initiative to empower Bihar’s makhana cultivators. As the state produces nearly 90% of India’s foxnuts—often touted by Modi as a “superfood”—the board will focus on research, marketing, and global promotion, benefiting districts like Purnea, Madhubani, Darbhanga, and Katihar. “This will put Bihar’s makhana on the world map, creating jobs and ensuring fair prices for our farmers,” Modi emphasized, drawing cheers from the agrarian audience.

Infrastructure took center stage with the inauguration of the interim terminal building at Purnea Airport’s new civil enclave, fulfilling a long-pending demand for enhanced air connectivity in north Bihar. The facility will boost passenger handling and cargo operations, linking the region more seamlessly to major cities.

Rail connectivity received a major fillip too: Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Jogbani and Danapur, promising faster, modern travel for districts including Araria, Purnea, and Patna. He also launched Amrit Bharat Express trains from Saharsa to Chheharta (Amritsar) and Jogbani to Erode, along with a new rail link in the Araria-Galgalia section, enhancing economic and cultural ties across eastern India.

Agricultural innovation shone through the launch of a state-of-the-art Sex-Sorted Semen Facility in Purnea under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission—the first in eastern and northeastern India. Capable of producing 5 lakh doses annually, it will revolutionize dairy farming by enabling gender-selective breeding, boosting milk production and farmer incomes. These projects span sectors like health, education, irrigation, and rural electrification, collectively aiming to generate thousands of jobs and improve living standards.

The visit wasn’t without political undercurrents. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who conducted a surprise inspection of Purnea’s Government Medical College and Hospital just days prior, criticized the timing, calling it a shower of “jumlas” (empty promises) amid persistent healthcare woes. However, Modi’s speech struck an optimistic chord, urging Biharis to envision a “Viksit Bihar” by 2047, aligned with the national Viksit Bharat vision.

As the sun set over the rally grounds, Modi’s felicitation—marked by floral tributes and traditional Bihari folk dances—symbolized not just political camaraderie but a shared aspiration for progress. With Bihar’s elections on the horizon, this Rs 36,000 crore infusion could prove pivotal, reinforcing the NDA’s narrative of development over dynasty. For the people of Purnea, it was a day of promise, where dreams of connectivity, prosperity, and pride converged under one sky.
