Rajnandgaon witnessed an emotional remembrance ceremony as Mayor Madhusudan Yadav paid homage to the martyrs of the 2009 Madanwada Naxal encounter. At Thakur Pyarelal Chowk, alongside the late SP Vinod Chaubey’s wife, Ranjana Chaubey, and Leader of Opposition Santosh Pille, the Mayor offered floral tributes at the statue of the valiant officer.
Earlier, Mayor Yadav joined the official memorial gathering at the Police Lines, where he paid respects and extended condolences to the families of the fallen.

Recalling the fateful day—July 12, 2009—Mayor Yadav highlighted the courage of SP Vinod Chaubey, the first IPS officer in the country to be martyred in a Naxal operation. SP Chaubey led from the front, boosting the morale of his team and engaging directly in a fierce four-hour-long encounter in the dense forests of Madanwada, ultimately sacrificing his life along with 28 fellow officers.
SP Vinod Chaubey was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his unmatched bravery. A total of 29 personnel were martyred in what remains one of the most tragic and heroic episodes in Chhattisgarh’s anti-Naxal operations.
