Ganeshotsav Committees Urged to Ensure Peaceful, Safe and Harmonious Celebrations; Meeting Held on Immersion Procession Arrangements

The district administration, police and officials from various departments held a meeting with office-bearers of Ganeshotsav committees on Thursday to discuss arrangements for maintaining peace, security, traffic management, cleanliness and social harmony during the festival.
Officials appealed to the committees to coordinate with the administration and ensure that the celebrations are conducted peacefully and in an organised manner. During the meeting, the Electricity Department briefed the participants about measures undertaken to make electrical wires and poles along the Ganesh immersion routes safer. The Municipal Corporation also informed that dedicated teams would be deployed for cleanliness at each pandal.
Inspector General of Police Ajay Kumar Yadav said Ganeshotsav is a festival of joy and enthusiasm and that ensuring a peaceful, safe and harmonious environment is a collective responsibility.
He emphasised that preventing an untoward incident before it occurs is more important and that Ganeshotsav committees have a crucial role in this regard. He urged committees to ensure an adequate number of volunteers to maintain discipline and self-control.
For the immersion procession, he called for a separate team of volunteers to coordinate between committee members and devotees and help regulate the crowd. He also appealed to committees to ensure that volunteers participating in the immersion procession are not under the influence of intoxicants and remain responsible and disciplined.
The Inspector General of Police directed committees to comply with the prescribed timings and sound limits while using DJs and sound amplification systems. He clarified that the use of sound systems is prohibited after 10 pm and appealed to the committees to ensure compliance with the directions of the High Court.
He said social media is also being closely monitored. Committees were advised not to forward any objectionable post or rumour without verification and to immediately inform the police about such material. Maintaining religious sentiments and social harmony, he said, remains the highest priority.
He also stressed the need for special attention to traffic arrangements. Pandal and stall locations should be selected in such a manner that the movement of essential-service vehicles, including ambulances, is not obstructed. In case of any route-related issue, committees were advised to coordinate with the administration and police.
The Inspector General also directed that necessary arrangements be made for managing stray animals on roads and preventing accidents. He appealed to organisers of large pandals to keep essential fire-fighting equipment available to prevent fire-related incidents.
Collector Calls for Inter-Departmental Coordination
The Collector said all departments should work in coordination on electrical safety, traffic management, medical facilities, cleanliness and immersion arrangements during Ganeshotsav.
He directed that arrangements around pandals should ensure uninterrupted movement of emergency vehicles. Committees were urged to immediately inform the administration about any problem or dispute so that it could be resolved in time.
Regarding medical arrangements, the Collector directed that essential medicines and facilities be made available. He said even a minor lapse during the festival could lead to a major incident and therefore urged all committees to accord the highest priority to safety.
The Collector also appealed to organisers to keep Ganesh pandals free from plastic and adopt paper or reusable alternatives instead of single-use plastic. He highlighted the problem of drains becoming clogged due to plastic waste and its long-term environmental persistence, urging committees to demonstrate awareness towards cleanliness.
He said maintaining cleanliness alongside the beauty of the festival is also a collective responsibility.
Top 3 Cleanest Pandals to Receive Certificates and Honour
The Collector announced a positive initiative to encourage cleanliness during Ganeshotsav. The Municipal Corporation will deploy a dedicated cleanliness team for every pandal.
After the conclusion of the festival, the top three Ganesh pandals with the best cleanliness and waste-disposal arrangements will be awarded certificates and honoured by the district administration.
Necessary decisions will also be taken to encourage committees that conduct the celebrations peacefully and in a disciplined manner.
Dedicated Police Teams Assigned to Each Pandal
Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma said a nodal or dedicated police team has been assigned to each pandal during Ganeshotsav.
She asked committee office-bearers to immediately inform the concerned officials about any problem or deficiency related to police arrangements.
The Superintendent of Police also appealed to the public to refrain from circulating misleading or objectionable content on social media. She said the police are keeping special watch on social media platforms.
If any objectionable post or content capable of disturbing religious harmony comes to notice, she urged people not to circulate it further and instead immediately bring it to the attention of the police so that necessary action can be taken.
Electricity Department Details Safety Measures on Immersion Routes
An official of the Electricity Department said the major Ganesh immersion routes had been inspected and necessary work carried out to ensure the safety of electrical lines.
Where electricity poles were located on one side of the road while lines crossed towards the other side, new poles were installed, the height of the lines was increased and service crossings were organised.
These measures have ensured adequate height and open space along the immersion routes from the perspective of electrical safety.
Telecommunication companies have also been asked to coordinate with the authorities to remove unsafe crossings and arrange lines at a safe height wherever necessary.
Committees Urged to Promote PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Ganeshotsav committees were also urged to display messages and appeals encouraging public awareness about the PM Surya Ghar scheme within pandal premises.
The initiative is aimed at promoting clean energy and encouraging more people to adopt solar energy.
Representatives of Ganeshotsav committees and officials from the district administration, police, Municipal Corporation, Electricity Department, Health Department and various other departments were present at the meeting.
