Location: Rajnandgaon, India

Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam, along with Traffic DSP K.K. Vajpayee, Traffic In-charge Navratan Kashyap and teams from the Municipal Corporation and Traffic Department, conducted a foot patrol across key market areas of Rajnandgaon on Sunday to ease traffic pressure and ensure smooth movement.

The team visited Mahavir Chowk, Jaistambh Chowk, Juni Hatri, Gudakhu Line and Ganj Chowk, inspecting market conditions and asking shopkeepers to remove goods kept outside their establishments and place all merchandise within the designated limits of their shops.

The officials issued clear instructions that goods must remain within the shop boundary. They warned that failure to comply would result in seizure of the material and further action.

Traffic Congestion Linked to Goods Kept Outside Shops

The city’s busiest commercial stretches, including Cinema Line, Halwai Line, Sadar Line, Gudakhu Line, Kamthi Line, Ramadheen Marg, Juni Hatri and Fruit Market, among others, frequently witness shopkeepers displaying goods outside their premises or hanging merchandise beyond shop limits.

According to the municipal administration, such practices obstruct traffic and create inconvenience for pedestrians and other commuters.

Rajnandgaon Market Drive: Commissioner Markam and Traffic Police Inspect Encroachments

Commissioner Markam had earlier advised traders to keep their goods within their shop boundaries. During the latest inspection, he personally accompanied DSP Vajpayee and the municipal and traffic teams through the market areas to reinforce the instructions and issue warnings against violations.

Shaded Structures Removed, Boards Seized

During the foot patrol in Juni Hatri and Gudakhu Line, the officials directed shopkeepers to remove goods placed outside their establishments and keep them within the permitted limits.

The action was aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic movement.

Following the officials’ instructions, the enforcement team removed sheds installed outside shops and seized boards that had been placed on the roadside.

Similarly, vendors selling earthen pots and other goods between Mahavir Chowk and Jaistambh Chowk were instructed to move their merchandise inside and avoid obstructing public movement.

The officials warned that goods found outside the permitted limits would be seized.

At Ganj Chowk, street vendors and hawkers were also advised to ensure that their activities did not obstruct traffic.

Commissioner Highlights Parking and Safety Concerns

Commissioner G.R. Markam said shopkeepers operating along the city’s busiest roads often place platforms and goods outside their shop boundaries and on roads, while garments and other merchandise are also displayed by hanging them outside.

Such practices create difficulties for parking, obstruct traffic and increase the possibility of accidents, he said.

The Commissioner also pointed out that inadequate parking and lack of space for customers can discourage people from visiting shops, which can ultimately affect traders themselves.

During the inspection, traders were advised to keep their merchandise inside their shops and ensure that vehicles are parked within the white line marked on the road.

The administration warned that goods found outside the prescribed limits would be seized.

Commissioner Markam appealed to traders to cooperate with the administration in preventing accidents and keeping the city clean, organised and accessible.

Municipal Corporation and Traffic Department personnel were present during the inspection and enforcement drive.
