Cultural Department Launches Major Initiative to Preserve Traditional Arts
Acting on the directions of Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal, the Chhattisgarh Culture Department is set to organize “Aakar-2026,” a traditional crafts and multi-disciplinary arts training camp aimed at preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural heritage, folk arts and indigenous craftsmanship.
The training camp will be held from June 8 to June 14, 2026, in Udaipur and Lakhanpur of Surguja Division. The initiative seeks to connect the younger generation with Chhattisgarh’s traditional art forms and encourage greater interest in cultural and artistic practices.
Training in 14 Traditional Art Forms
Participants will receive training in a wide range of traditional disciplines, including:
- Dance
- Theatre
- Musical Instruments
- Painting
- Clay Art
- Mural Art
- Hand Embroidery
- Dry Flower Art
- Koriya Art
- Rajwar Mud Painting
- Mehndi Art
- Terracotta and Soil Craft
- Godna (Traditional Tattoo Art)
- Bamboo Craft
The training will be conducted by renowned artists and experienced art masters from across the state, enabling participants to gain practical skills and technical knowledge in their chosen disciplines.
Registration Process Underway
According to the Culture Department, training sessions in Udaipur will be conducted daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Government Higher Secondary School campus. In Lakhanpur, sessions will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the PM SHRI School campus.
The registration process commenced on June 6, and interested participants can enroll by paying the prescribed registration fee.
Preserving Endangered and Folk Art Traditions
The primary objective of Aakar-2026 extends beyond skill training. The program is designed to preserve endangered traditional art forms and cultural practices deeply rooted in the daily lives of local communities.
Through direct interaction with experienced mentors, young artists will have the opportunity to refine their talents, develop professional skills and explore future self-employment opportunities linked to cultural and creative industries.
The registration fee has been fixed at Rs 100, while special concessions will be provided to differently-abled participants and orphaned children.
Exhibition and Certificates for Participants
Upon completion of the training program, an exhibition showcasing artworks and craft creations developed during the camp will be organized. Participants will also be awarded certificates recognizing their successful completion of the training.
