Victim Rescued Safely from Madhya Pradesh; Accused Booked for Rape on False Promise of Marriage

Acting swiftly, Basantpur Police in Rajnandgaon district rescued a minor kidnapping victim safely within just 24 hours from Madhya Pradesh and arrested the accused. After being produced before the court, the accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
Complaint Registered, Case Immediately Taken Up
According to police information, on May 04, 2026, the complainant lodged a report at Basantpur Police Station regarding the kidnapping of her minor daughter. Based on the complaint, a missing person case was registered as Crime No. 197/2026 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Considering the seriousness of the case, Superintendent of Police Ms. Ankita Sharma (IPS), under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Rathore and City Superintendent of Police Ms. Vaishali Jain (IPS), directed immediate action.
CCTV Analysis and Technical Tracking
Under the leadership of Station House Officer Inspector Eman Sahu, a dedicated police team was formed. The team examined CCTV footage installed at various locations across the city.
During investigation, footage revealed the victim travelling on a motorcycle along with the accused. Based on this lead, police used technical evidence and surveillance to trace the suspect’s movement.
Rescue Operation in Madhya Pradesh
Following continuous efforts, the police team, with assistance from Sonkatch Police Station in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, successfully traced and recovered both the minor victim and the accused.

Accused Lured Victim and Committed Sexual Assault
During interrogation, the victim stated that the accused, identified as Sujit Adhikari (40), a native of Betul (Madhya Pradesh) and presently residing at Srishti Colony, Atal Awas under Basantpur Police Station limits in Rajnandgaon, had lured her away.
He allegedly first took her to Raipur and later transported her by bus to Madhya Pradesh, where he forcibly established physical relations with her.
Based on the victim’s statement, police registered additional charges under Section 65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act. The accused was arrested and subsequently sent to jail under judicial custody.

The successful operation involved significant contributions from Inspector Eman Sahu, Sub-Inspector Devdas Bharti, Assistant Sub-Inspector Manmohan Sahu, Head Constable Kishore Yadav, Woman Constable Menka Sahu, Constable Athar Ali, and other members of the police team.
