In a significant boost to maternal healthcare services, a newly renovated operation theatre dedicated to maternity care has become functional on the ground floor of the District Hospital in Rajnandgaon. The initiative has been undertaken under the guidance of Collector Jitendra Yadav, transforming the old major operation theatre into a specialized unit for pregnant women.
With the commissioning of this upgraded facility, pregnant women—especially high-risk cases—will now have access to timely, safe, and quality medical services within the district hospital itself. The operation theatre is fully equipped to handle cesarean deliveries (C-sections) as well as emergency obstetric procedures, ensuring that critical cases receive immediate surgical intervention.
Improved Access to Emergency Care
The availability of this dedicated maternity OT is expected to significantly reduce the need for referring patients to other hospitals during emergencies. This will not only save crucial time but also minimize delays in treatment, which are often critical in complicated pregnancies.
Health officials believe that the initiative will play a vital role in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in the region. Women from rural and remote areas, who often face challenges in accessing advanced healthcare, will particularly benefit from the availability of such services at the district level.
Focus on Quality and Preparedness
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netaram Navratan inspected the newly operational theatre and reviewed the availability of medical equipment and other essential resources. He emphasized the importance of maintaining all necessary facilities and ensuring smooth functioning so that no inconvenience is caused to patients.

Civil Surgeon and Chief Hospital Superintendent Dr. Mahendra Prasad, Hospital Manager Avin Choudhary, along with specialists from the obstetrics and anesthesia departments and other concerned officials, were present during the inspection.
Strengthening Public Healthcare Infrastructure
The development reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and ensuring accessible and efficient medical services. By enhancing in-house capabilities for maternity care, the district hospital is now better positioned to handle critical cases and provide comprehensive care to expecting mothers.
This step is expected to improve overall healthcare delivery in Rajnandgaon, making advanced obstetric services more accessible, reliable, and timely for all sections of society.
