Speaker Inaugurates ₹3.79-Crore Residential Complex and Lays Foundation for Water Infrastructure Projects on Republic Day

Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh on Monday attended the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of the journalists’ residential complex developed over 10 acres in Rajnandgaon. On the occasion of Republic Day, Dr Singh inaugurated the housing project constructed at a cost of ₹3 crore 79 lakh 91 thousand and also performed bhoomi pujan for a water tank, sumpwell, and pipeline expansion works valued at ₹49 lakh.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Raman Singh said Rajnandgaon, known as Sanskaradhani, carries a rich legacy, and the journalists’ colony marks a new chapter in that proud history. He said the project stands as a testament to the dedication, hard work, and unity of local journalists, setting an inspiring example for the entire state.

He noted that owning a home is one of life’s greatest achievements and announced that 141 journalists will benefit from the residential complex. Dr Singh described journalists as custodians of democracy and “magicians of the pen” who nurture and strengthen the republic through responsible reporting. He further announced the construction of two high-mast lights and an additional road within the colony to improve infrastructure.

Senior journalist Shri Himanshu Dwivedi said the long-cherished dream of housing for journalists was realised through collective effort and government support. He added that Rajnandgaon journalists have demonstrated how unity can transform aspirations into reality, with the colony offering essential amenities such as water and electricity.

Industrialist and social worker Shri Bahadur Ali termed the day historic, as 141 journalists will soon live together in one residential campus. He announced that his organisation, ABIS, will provide air conditioners to journalists whose houses are completed within three years, adding that professional relationships among journalists will now evolve into family bonds.

Press Club President Shri Sachin Agrahari shared details of the project, stating that mutual coordination, understanding, and positivity made the initiative possible. He described the development as a new milestone in Rajnandgaon’s literary, cultural, and artistic heritage, enabling journalists and their families to fulfil a lifelong dream.

Press Club Housing Society President Shri Mithlesh Devangan said the inauguration marked an unforgettable moment for all stakeholders. He informed that development work is progressing rapidly, with water, electricity, and other civic facilities being prioritised, and expressed confidence that the colony would be fully developed within six months.

The programme was attended by Chhattisgarh Tourism Board Chairman Shri Neelu Sharma, former MPs Shri Abhishek Singh and Shri Pradeep Gandhi, Shri Komal Singh Rajput, Shri Suresh H. Lal, Shri Jitendra Mudliyar, Press Club patron Shri Jitendra Mishra, Shri Ashok Pandey, Shri Sushil Kothari, former Housing Society President Shri Atul Srivastava, Press Club Secretary Shri Anil Tripathi, Treasurer Shri Basant Sharma, along with journalists and their family members.
