In a major initiative to strengthen maternal healthcare, the district administration is ensuring free medical screening and treatment for high-risk pregnant women. As part of this effort, free ultrasound examinations have been conducted for 1,667 high-risk pregnant women so far.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), special antenatal health camps are organised in the district on the 9th and 24th of every month to provide comprehensive prenatal care. The programme focuses on early identification, free examination, treatment, and counselling of women facing high-risk pregnancies.

Women covered under the high-risk category include those who had a previous delivery by caesarean section, a history of miscarriage or stillbirth, low body weight or height, early-age pregnancy, severe anaemia, high blood pressure, diabetes, or any other serious medical condition.

Following the directions of Collector Shri Jitendra Yadav, high-risk pregnant women are also being contacted every week through telephone calls to provide essential health-related information and medical advice, ensuring continuous monitoring and support.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netram Navratan informed that a total of 1,775 high-risk pregnant women have been identified in the district under the campaign. Out of these, 1,667 women have already undergone ultrasound screening, while the remaining 108 women are scheduled to receive the service by Saturday.

He further stated that with the support of the Indian Medical Association, free ultrasound examinations were conducted for 16 pregnant women on the day. Of these, 11 women from Ghumka were examined at Sundara Hospital, while five women received services at Bharat Diagnostic Centre.

The initiative reflects the district administration’s continued commitment to improving maternal health outcomes and ensuring safe motherhood through timely medical intervention.
