Chhattisgarh Congress General Secretary says Budget ignores poor, farmers and middle class; calls it a “numbers game” disconnected from ground realities

Reacting strongly to the Union Budget 2026 presented by the Modi government, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha In-charge Shahid Bhai described the budget as disappointing and misleading, alleging that it offers nothing substantial for the poor, farmers, labourers and the middle class.
He said the BJP repeatedly promotes slogans such as Viksit Bharat and Mission 2047, but the ground reality reflects a different picture.
“The priorities of Budget 2026 are now clear. There is nothing in it for common people. When earlier budget allocations themselves were not fully utilised, talking about developed India by 2047 becomes meaningless,” Shahid Bhai stated.
Highlighting significant reductions across major ministries, he pointed to steep cuts in:
- Rural Development – ₹53,067 crore
- Urban Development – ₹39,573 crore
- Social Welfare – ₹9,999 crore
- Agriculture – ₹6,985 crore
- Education – ₹6,701 crore
- Health – ₹3,686 crore
He further criticised the drastic reduction in the flagship Jal Jeevan Mission, whose allocation has reportedly been slashed from ₹67,000 crore to just ₹17,000 crore—nearly a 75 per cent cut.
“Reducing Jal Jeevan Mission funds at this scale effectively deprives citizens of access to clean drinking water. Meanwhile, the Information and Broadcasting Department continues to receive generous funding merely to polish the Prime Minister’s image,” he alleged.

Shahid Bhai accused the central government of prioritising mineral corridors and resource extraction over public welfare. He questioned the implementation of past announcements, asking how many smart cities have actually materialised, where bullet trains are operational, and what happened to the promise of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
“Every major promise of the BJP has turned out to be a jumla. The government only sells dreams of development. This budget is nothing more than a maze of figures,” he said.
Summing up, Shahid Bhai termed Budget 2026 a “failed budget”, asserting that it does not address the pressing challenges facing India’s economy.
“When previous allocations remain unspent, the vision of a developed India loses credibility. This budget does nothing to confront economic realities and offers no relief to ordinary citizens,” he added.
