Rajnandgaon Police have busted an interstate cyber fraud network that allegedly cheated a person of ₹11,36,123 by promising to appoint him as a district distributor of Tata Power Solar. The Cyber Police Station team conducted a raid in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, and arrested two accused who were allegedly operating the fraud network from a rented house.
According to police, the accused used fake advertisement links on Instagram to collect personal information from prospective applicants. They subsequently contacted victims while posing as company representatives and persuaded them to transfer money under various pretexts.
The arrested accused have been identified as Prashant Kumar alias Nikki (27), a resident of Nalanda district, and Abhishek Kumar Yadav alias Ravi (34), a resident of Aurangabad district in Bihar. Both were allegedly running the cyber fraud operation from a rented house in Bodh Gaya.
Fake Instagram Advertisement Used to Target Victims
According to the police investigation, the accused arranged a fake Instagram advertisement link offering Tata Power Solar distributorship. Interested individuals were asked to enter their names, addresses, mobile numbers and email IDs through the link. The submitted information was then made available to the accused.
They subsequently contacted applicants by phone, introduced themselves as authorised company representatives and assured them of district distributorship.
To extract money, the accused demanded payments in instalments under different pretexts, including registration fees, advance payment for solar system machinery and travel expenses for company officials.
To gain the victims’ confidence, they also prepared fake documents bearing the Tata Power Solar name and sent them through email.
Using this method, the accused allegedly cheated the complainant of ₹11,36,123 during July and August 2026.
Fake SIM Cards and Mule Bank Accounts Used to Move Money
The investigation revealed that the accused allegedly obtained mobile SIM cards and bank accounts on commission from the Kolkata region of West Bengal to receive the fraud proceeds.
After the money was deposited into these accounts, it was withdrawn or transferred through ATMs and PhonePe. The accused reportedly divided the proceeds among themselves and other associates on a commission basis.
