Three Arrested for Illegal Paddy Transportation from Another State in Rajnandgaon

Over 2,170 sacks of paddy worth ₹26.90 lakh seized earlier from six trucks; accused sent to judicial remand

Acting on the directives of the Chhattisgarh State Government to curb illegal transportation of paddy from neighbouring states into Chhattisgarh, police have arrested three accused involved in the case. The accused were allegedly attempting to divert paddy into cooperative societies to earn illegal profits.

Earlier, on January 14, 2025, a joint team constituted under the supervision of Executive Magistrate, Chhuria Tehsil, Mr. Vijay Kumar Kothari, intercepted six trucks carrying 2,170 sacks of paddy, valued at ₹26,90,800. The seized paddy was handed over to Chichola Police Outpost, where a case was registered. Following the seizure, the accused had gone absconding.

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ms. Ankita Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police Mr. Kirtan Rathore, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Mr. Kesarinandan Nayak, a police team led by Chichola Outpost In-charge Inspector Yogesh Patel tracked down and arrested the accused.

Arrested Accused Identified As:

  • Neeraj Sapekar alias Neeru (33), resident of Jambhurtola village, Fukimeta post, Amgaon tehsil, Gondia district, Maharashtra
  • Arun Damahe (42), resident of Mohantola, Ward No. 05, Amgaon, Gondia district, Maharashtra
  • Krishna Kumar Dongarwar (35), resident of Kunbitola village, Kawarabandh post, Salekasa tehsil, Gondia district, Maharashtra

All three accused were produced before the Dongargarh Court, which remanded them to judicial custody. Police officials stated that search operations are ongoing to trace other absconding accused involved in the illegal paddy transportation network.

The operation saw commendable contributions from Inspector Yogesh Patel, Sub-Inspector Virendra Navik, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Sharifuddin Sheikh, Head Constable Dharmendra Sahu (585), and Constable Chandrashekhar Premi (267).

Police reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in illegal paddy transportation to protect the interests of genuine farmers and ensure transparency in procurement.
