In a profound moment of spiritual farewell, thousands of devotees converged at the sacred Dharkundi Ashram in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, to pay their last respects to the enlightened sage, Anant Shri Vibhushit Swami Paramhans Sachchidanand Ji Maharaj. The founder of this revered spiritual center passed away (attained Brahmaleen) on Saturday afternoon in Mumbai’s Badlapur ashram at the age of 102, marking the end of an extraordinary life dedicated to tapasya (austerity), tyag (renunciation), and selfless service to humanity.

Swami Ji’s mortal remains were brought from Mumbai via road, arriving at Dharkundi Ashram on Sunday evening amid an overwhelming surge of bhakti (devotion). Devotees from across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and beyond formed long queues for his final darshan, offering heartfelt shraddhanjali (tributes) at his lotus feet. The atmosphere was filled with chants, prayers, and tears of both grief and gratitude, as people recalled the divine guidance that illuminated countless lives.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav visited the ashram to offer his personal respects, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. He described Swami Ji’s lifelong commitment to spiritual upliftment and lok kalyan (welfare of society) as an enduring source of inspiration. “His tapas, tyag, and spiritual teachings will remain alive in our memories and continue to guide generations toward enlightenment,” the CM noted in his tribute. Established on November 22, 1956, under the blessings of his Guru, Brahmalin Swami Paramanand Ji Paramhans, the Dharkundi Ashram nestles in the serene Vindhyachal mountain ranges near the historic Chitrakoot region.

Legend ties the site to ancient epics, including the Aghamarshan Kund mentioned in the Mahabharata. Swami Ji transformed this dense forest area into a beacon of sanyas and spirituality. After nearly 11 years of intense sadhana at Anusuya Ashram in Chitrakoot under his Guru’s guidance, he settled here, residing initially in a cave—said to have been shared peacefully with a lion—symbolizing harmony with nature. Over decades, the ashram grew into a major center blending spirituality and eco-tourism, featuring rare rock paintings, perennial mountain streams, deep ravines, and lush forests.

It provides free accommodation and meals (often from ashram-grown grains) to visitors, embodying Swami Ji’s principle of selfless service. His teachings emphasized Sanatan dharma, inner peace, and humanitarian welfare, drawing seekers worldwide. Swami Ji’s health had been frail in recent months, yet he continued offering virtual darshan and pravachan from Badlapur.

His 101st birth anniversary was celebrated grandly on January 1, 2025, at Dharkundi with his virtual presence. As per tradition, his earthly body will be interred in a grand samadhi within the ashram’s garbhagriha on Monday (February 9, 2026), following Vedic rituals. Special arrangements are in place for saints, dignitaries, and devotees to participate.

The construction of this samadhi site began on his instructions some time ago, ensuring his legacy remains eternally enshrined. The spiritual world mourns an irreplaceable luminary, but Swami Ji’s blessings and profound wisdom will forever guide his followers. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his divine light continue to dispel darkness for all.
