Joint Police and Cyber Cell Operation Leads to Busting of Local Gang; Multiple Arms Recovered

In a major crackdown to maintain law and order, a joint team of Chikhli police outpost and the Cyber Cell arrested seven accused involved in creating panic by brandishing firearms in the Shankarpur area. Police recovered two pistols, two country-made firearms and live cartridges from the accused during the operation.
The action was carried out under the direction of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, with guidance from Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and supervision of City Superintendents of Police Vaishali Jain and Alexander Kiro.
According to police, on February 12, 2026, residents informed authorities that a युवक known as Charlie was threatening people near the Dabba Ground cemetery with pistols and country-made weapons. Acting swiftly, the police team conducted a raid and apprehended four suspects who attempted to flee.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shivam Sinha alias Charlie, Digambar Sahu alias Chhotu, Sevak Kashyap alias Dala and Gunjesh Verma alias Shiva, residents of Shankarpur and Pendri. A pistol with cartridges was seized from Shivam Sinha, while a country-made firearm was recovered from Digambar Sahu. Cases were registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

During interrogation, the main accused revealed that the weapons had been procured from the Dhar–Barwani region of Madhya Pradesh with the help of an associate, Vicky Deshmukh of Durg, for intimidation and illegal sale. Based on this information, police teams conducted follow-up raids in Durg and Rajnandgaon, arresting additional accused — Vicky Deshmukh alias Monu, Jatindas Manikpuri and Umesh Sahu alias Bathalu. Another pistol and country-made firearm were recovered during these operations.
Police stated that all seven accused have prior criminal records involving serious offences. They have been formally arrested and produced before the court.
The operation involved significant contributions from Chikhli Outpost In-charge Sub-Inspector Kailash Chandra Marai, Assistant Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Verma, Head Constable Arun Kumar Netam and other police personnel, along with Cyber Cell Sub-Inspector Naresh Banjare.
