Senior paediatrician from Rajnandgaon recognised for five decades of medical service, public health research and social welfare initiatives

Senior paediatrician and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Pukhraj Bafna of Rajnandgaon has been honoured with the prestigious “Chhattisgarh Ratna” award for his exceptional contribution to medical services, public health and social welfare. The award was presented on August 2 at a ceremony organised by the Helping Hands Foundation in the packed auditorium of Mekahara, Raipur, in the presence of Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu as the chief guest.
According to Ankit Agrawal, State President of the organisation, Dr. Bafna received the honour for his research on the health of tribal children, nearly five decades of continuous health-related writing, research on the impact of yoga on asthma among children and adolescents, public service in the prevention of blindness and malnutrition, contributions as an author of chapters in several medical publications, active participation in national and international conferences, and recognition through three world records and several national honours.

Dr. Bafna, a resident of Rajnandgaon, has been providing medical services in the city and surrounding areas for more than 50 years. Besides being a distinguished physician, he has remained actively involved in social service and public awareness initiatives. Through various voluntary organisations, he has contributed significantly to campaigns related to healthcare, education and social welfare.
His scholarship, simplicity, humanitarian approach and dedication to society have earned him a distinguished reputation not only in Rajnandgaon but across Chhattisgarh. He is widely respected by people from political, social, educational and other fields. His work is regarded as an inspiring example of using medical practice as a means of serving society.
The conferment of the “Chhattisgarh Ratna” award has been widely welcomed in Rajnandgaon. Various social, religious, medical and service organisations, public representatives and citizens congratulated Dr. Bafna, describing the honour as a matter of pride for the entire district.
