Responding to the rising population of stray dogs and growing complaints from residents, the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has stepped up its sterilisation drive across various city wards. The corporation’s health department team has successfully sterilised nearly 800 stray dogs over the past five months, as part of an organised campaign aimed at controlling the increasing number of dog bite incidents and the nuisance created by dog packs.
Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma stated that several wards within the municipal limits have reported a noticeable surge in stray dog numbers. This rise has led to situations where residents faced dog bite cases, and groups of dogs created fear among local communities. Taking these concerns seriously, and acting on the directions of Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, the corporation initiated a structured sterilisation process for stray dogs.
Following procedural approvals, the corporation formally engaged Nain Foundation Services, Haryana, to carry out the sterilisation work as per official guidelines. The agency undertook the task of capturing dogs from areas with higher stray dog density and from neighbourhoods where bite incidents were reported more frequently.

Commissioner Vishwakarma further informed that in the span of five months, Nain Foundation Services sterilised approximately 800 stray dogs in different wards of the city. To strengthen this ongoing effort, the Municipal Corporation has now issued a fresh work order to the same agency for the sterilisation of 1,000 more dogs.
The sterilisation activities are being conducted under the supervision of the Health Officer, with sanitation inspectors monitoring field operations ward-wise. The Commissioner also appealed to citizens to report areas with a high number of stray dogs to the health department, so that timely action can be taken under the sterilisation programme.
