Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to farmer welfare and transparent administration, In-charge Minister and School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav on Friday said that the government led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stands firmly for “good governance” and timely delivery of benefits to citizens.

The Minister was addressing a district-level Krishak Unnati Yojana input assistance distribution programme and a large farmers’ conference held at Gandhi Sabhagar, Municipal School Ground in Rajnandgaon. The event was connected via live webcast to the state-level programme attended by Chief Minister Sai in Bilha block of Bilaspur district.

Under the Krishak Unnati Yojana, more than 25.28 lakh registered paddy and paddy seed-producing farmers across Chhattisgarh received financial assistance amounting to over ₹10,324 crore directly into their bank accounts. Of this, 1,24,101 farmers from Rajnandgaon district alone were paid more than ₹454.12 crore.

Congratulating farmers on the occasion of Holi, Yadav said the timely transfer of assistance reflects the state government’s resolve to strengthen rural prosperity. “Within a month of completion of paddy procurement for the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26, payments have been credited to the accounts of over 25 lakh farmers. This demonstrates that the Sai government is truly a government of good governance,” he asserted.

Highlighting earlier decisions taken by the government, the Minister recalled that soon after assuming office, the state celebrated the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as Good Governance Day and cleared nearly ₹14,000 crore in pending bonus payments to farmers for two years.

He further noted that under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) mechanism and the Krishak Unnati Yojana, paddy was procured at ₹3,100 per quintal, with a cap of 21 quintals per acre. “In just four months, farmers have benefited from payments worth nearly ₹20,000 crore,” Yadav said.

The Minister also highlighted other welfare initiatives, including the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, under which more than 70 lakh women in the state are receiving ₹1,000 per month on a regular basis. In addition, farmers opting for alternative crops such as millets and oilseeds instead of paddy are being provided an incentive of ₹10,000 per acre. Crops covered under the scheme include kodo, kutki, ragi, soybean and sugarcane.

Yadav pointed out that soybean cultivation in Chhattisgarh began in Rajnandgaon district and has since proven beneficial for farmers. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consistently working towards enhancing farmers’ income and promoting crop diversification.

Emphasising the growing market demand for millets, the Minister urged farmers to adopt traditional and organic farming practices, particularly for crops such as kodo, kutki, ragi and flaxseed. “Organic produce is increasingly valued for its health benefits. Farmers should seize this opportunity to diversify and improve their earnings,” he said.

During the programme, farmers with the highest and lowest landholdings who sold paddy through cooperative societies, as well as those who shifted from summer paddy to alternative crops, were felicitated. Several public representatives and senior administrative officials were present at the event, including district-level leaders and agriculture department officers.

The large turnout of farmers at the district and block-level venues underscored the significance of the initiative and the government’s outreach efforts to ensure that benefits reach the grassroots in a timely manner.
