Following the directions of Health Minister Jaiswal and in compliance with instructions issued by the Food Safety Department, the manufacture, storage, transport and sale of dairy analog products (substandard or imitation paneer, cream and butter) have been prohibited with immediate effect in Rajnandgaon district.
As part of the enforcement drive, a team from the Food and Drug Administration Department conducted a surprise inspection at a dairy establishment located in Paneka village on Dongargarh Road. During the inspection, officials examined hygiene standards, records and product labelling. No production or storage of dairy analog paneer was found at the site, and the unit was found to have been voluntarily closed. A copy of the official order was handed over to the operator with instructions to ensure that the regulations are not violated in the future.
The Food and Drug Administration Department stated that intensive inspections will continue to ensure that citizens have access to safe, pure and quality food products.
According to the Designated Officer, Food and Drug Administration, Rajnandgaon, dairy analog products are non-dairy food items in which vegetable fat, vegetable oil or other non-milk ingredients are used instead of natural milk. These products closely resemble genuine paneer, cream or butter in appearance. Since the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has not prescribed clear standards for such products, they may mislead consumers and could prove highly harmful to health.

The district administration has issued strict instructions to all food and dairy traders across the district. Traders have been directed to completely stop the manufacture, storage, transport and sale of all forms of dairy analog products, including imitation paneer, cream and butter, with immediate effect.
All establishments have also been instructed to maintain hygiene standards, possess valid FSSAI licences or registrations, and ensure compliance with prescribed labelling norms. Any violation detected at any establishment will invite penal and stringent legal action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The Food Safety Department has appealed to the public not to purchase dairy products labelled as “Analog Paneer,” “Imitation,” or “Dairy Analog.” Consumers have also been advised to exercise special caution while purchasing loose paneer and milk-based sweets and to buy food products only from reliable establishments holding valid FSSAI licences.
The department has further urged citizens to immediately inform the Food Safety Department if they suspect the sale of substandard or adulterated dairy products at any location.
