More than 40 spectacular tableaux expected to draw thousands of devotees as Ganesh committees and administration agree to reschedule the procession

Continuous rainfall has led to the postponement of Rajnandgaon’s much-awaited Ganesh immersion tableau procession by one day. Instead of September 25, the procession will now be taken out on Saturday, September 26.
The decision was taken during an important meeting of the administration, police officials and Ganesh committees held at the Sheetla Temple premises on Friday, where almost all committees agreed to postpone the event in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Continuous Rain Raises Safety and Management Concerns
Light rain began in Rajnandgaon on Friday morning and intensified after around noon. The rainfall continued through the night and was still continuing at the time of reporting.
Waterlogging was reported on several city roads, while water accumulated in potholes affected movement at various places. Low-lying settlements, along with areas around the hospital, court and other major locations, also witnessed waterlogging.
The adverse weather conditions increased the administrative challenge of ensuring the safety and arrangements for thousands of devotees, tableau committees, artists and visitors arriving from outside the city.
Arrangements related to seating, rest areas, decorations and protection from rain for the tableaux were also being affected by the continuous rainfall. Considering these circumstances, the decision was taken in time to shift the procession by one day.
Ganesh Committees Welcome the Decision
The meeting at the Sheetla Temple premises was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police Keertan Rathore, DSP Satya Prakash Tiwari and TI Upendra Shah, along with other police and administrative officials.
Representatives and office-bearers of various Ganesh committees, including Bhavesh Baid, Golu Gupta, Kamlesh and Ganesh Pawar, were also present.
Detailed discussions were held on the tableau route, traffic management, security arrangements, facilities for devotees and immersion-related arrangements.
In view of the unfavourable weather, the committees agreed not to take out the tableau procession on September 25 and to organise it on September 26. The committees welcomed the administration’s timely decision.
Eight-Decade-Old Tradition Has Faced Rain Delays Before
The Ganesh immersion tableau tradition of Rajnandgaon is considered to be more than 80 years old. Over time, the event has grown into a major and popular celebration, drawing large numbers of people from nearby villages and distant areas to the city.
The procession has faced postponement due to rainfall in the past as well. On some occasions, heavy rain led to some tableaux being taken out while the remaining tableaux were brought out the following day.
Against this backdrop, the decision to postpone this year’s event by one day in view of the weather conditions has been described as a practical step in keeping with the tradition.
Timely Decision Gives Visitors an Opportunity to Plan
People from surrounding villages and other areas often plan their travel to Rajnandgaon in advance to watch the tableaux. The decision being taken in time has given visitors an opportunity to modify their plans accordingly.
The committees and administration will now keep a close watch on the weather conditions for September 26. There is hope that the weather will improve on Saturday and that the historic Ganesh immersion tableau procession will be held with enthusiasm, devotion and grandeur.
Ganesh committees and devotees have also prayed to Varun Dev for clear weather on Saturday and for the procession to be conducted without any obstacles.
Given Rajnandgaon’s distinctive tradition of Ganesh Utsav and the immersion tableau procession, the September 26 event holds special significance for the city’s residents.
