The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is helping needy rural families realise their dream of a safe and permanent home. Among its beneficiaries is 58-year-old Faguram Sahu, a resident of Amlidih village in Dongargarh development block, whose family has now moved from a fragile mud house to a secure permanent home.
Life in a Dilapidated House
Faguram Sahu said that he earlier lived with his wife and two sons in a kutcha and dilapidated house. The family depended on daily wage labour and limited agricultural work for its livelihood.
Due to their weak financial condition, constructing a permanent house was beyond the family’s means. During the monsoon, rainwater would enter the house through the kutcha walls and roof, creating considerable difficulties for the family.
With no other earning member in the household, Sahu had eventually given up hope of being able to construct a permanent home.
Panchayat Assistance Made the Difference
During this period, the Gram Panchayat secretary visited his home, collected the required documents and completed his online registration under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.

After the housing assistance was approved, ₹25,000 was credited to his bank account as the first instalment. With the financial assistance, Sahu began construction of his permanent house.
Under the scheme, he received a total housing assistance of ₹1.20 lakh in three instalments. He also received wage payments under MGNREGA, providing employment support alongside assistance for house construction.
A New Home Brings Security and Dignity
Today, Faguram Sahu and his family are living comfortably in their permanent and secure home. The new house has brought relief from the difficulties they previously faced during the rainy season and provided the family with a greater sense of security.
Sahu also uses the gas connection received under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in the kitchen of his new home.
He expressed his wishes and gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 25 years of distinguished public service and said that the government’s housing assistance has brought a significant change to his family’s life.
“The Scheme Has Given Us More Than a Roof”
Expressing his gratitude, Faguram Sahu said that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has given his family not only a permanent roof but also security, dignity and confidence in a better future.
He thanked the government for supporting poor families like his and providing financial assistance to help them build permanent homes.
Sahu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, saying that the assistance has brought a new light into his family’s life.
