On the third day of the Bhagwat Katha organised by the Lohia family at the local Agrasen Bhawan, renowned storyteller Goswami Pandit Banke Bihari Ji from Mathura delivered an insightful narration on the character of King Prithu.
Connecting episodes from the Bhagwat with contemporary social and family life, Pandit Banke Bihari Ji emphasised the importance of dharma, duty, values and righteous conduct.
King Prithu Presented as an Ideal Ruler
Pandit Banke Bihari Ji described King Prithu as a symbol of an ideal ruler. He said Prithu worked to make the earth fertile, established systems for the welfare of his people and protected dharma.
In his later years, Prithu handed over his kingdom to his sons and went to the forest with his wife Archi. Through penance and yogic practices, he eventually left his body and attained Vaikuntha Dham along with Archi.
He said the life of King Prithu represents a meaningful combination of ideal governance, sacrifice, dharma and devotion.
Religious Teachings Must Become Part of Practical Life
The storyteller said the purpose of listening to religious scriptures is not merely to hear stories but to incorporate their teachings into everyday conduct.
He stressed the need to strengthen relationships, values and responsibilities within families. According to him, understanding and following the life values described in the scriptures can contribute to a happier and more organised family and social life.
While explaining the well-known line from Tulsidas Ji, “ढोल गंवार शूद्र पशु नारी, सकल ताड़ना के अधिकारी,” he said the word ‘taadna’ should not be understood only in the sense of punishment or harassment. He explained it in the context of supervision, care, training and responsibility.
He specifically stated that the couplet cannot be used as a justification for violence or mistreatment of women.
Emphasis on Women’s Dignity and Safety
Pandit Banke Bihari Ji stressed the importance of respect and safety for women. He said that a person who assaults, mistreats or commits atrocities against a woman harms both the family and society.

He said that when women remain healthy and respected, families remain healthy, and healthy families contribute to a healthy society and a stronger nation.
Give Up the Habit of Being Unhappy at Others’ Happiness
Speaking about human nature, Pandit Banke Bihari Ji said people sometimes become more distressed by seeing the happiness of others than by their own difficulties.
He urged devotees to avoid unnecessary comparisons and instead focus on their own actions, responsibilities and efforts to improve their lives.
Referring to the principle of selfless action from the Bhagavad Gita, he said people should continue performing their duties without unnecessary anxiety over the results. If one performs good deeds, their results will certainly follow. Therefore, rather than losing time and mental peace worrying about outcomes, one should remain focused on one’s responsibilities.
Wealth Must Be Used Responsibly
He also spoke about the proper use of wealth, saying that merely bringing money into the household is not enough; its appropriate utilisation is equally important.
If wealth continues to accumulate without being put to good use, it can become useless, just as stagnant water becomes polluted and unfit for use.
He said wealth should be used for family needs, serving parents, religious and social activities, helping those in need and charitable purposes. Merely accumulating money without using it meaningfully cannot be the purpose of life.
Every Action Should Be Performed with a Sense of Devotion
The storyteller said that the feeling of devotion to God should extend beyond worship and prayer into every activity of daily life.
From eating to professional work, he said, when a person performs every action with a sense of offering it to God, difficulties feel less burdensome and a positive attitude towards work develops.
He also highlighted the importance of regular satsang, devotional singing and prayer. Maintaining discipline in daily life, waking up on time, following routine duties and preserving mutual respect within the family were described as important means of bringing peace into life.
Harmony of Mind, Speech and Action Is Essential
Pandit Banke Bihari Ji said there should be consistency between a person’s mind, words and actions.
When a person thinks one thing, speaks another and acts differently, it creates an internal conflict. In contrast, when thoughts, words and actions move in the same direction, life becomes more peaceful and brings greater satisfaction and self-confidence.
During the Bhagwat Katha, he used several religious and spiritual episodes to connect devotees with practical aspects of life. His simple and message-oriented narration deeply engaged the devotees.
A large number of devotees attended the programme, creating a devotional atmosphere at the venue.
Lohia Family Expresses Gratitude
On behalf of the organisers, Vishnu Lohia of the Lohia family expressed gratitude to all the devotees and listeners. The attendees were also welcomed by presenting them with saffron “Radhe Radhe” scarves.
