Commuters urge railway authorities to ensure uninterrupted operation of passenger facilities during train arrivals and departures

Passengers at Rajnandgaon Railway Station have expressed concern over the frequent non-functioning of escalators and lifts, saying repeated disruptions are causing significant inconvenience, particularly during train arrival and departure hours.
According to commuters, the passenger amenities installed to facilitate easy movement across platforms are often found out of service, making travel difficult for hundreds of passengers using the station each day.
Passengers said the upward-moving escalator is frequently found switched off. Although a lift is available nearby, it is also reportedly non-operational on several occasions or remains overcrowded, forcing travellers to wait for extended periods. The situation poses particular difficulties for senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, and passengers carrying heavy luggage. Many commuters are compelled to rush towards the platforms, sometimes risking missing their trains.
A similar situation was witnessed on Thursday when the upward escalator was found non-functional during train timings. According to passengers present at the station, one commuter said he would lodge a complaint and raise the issue on social media. Shortly afterwards, a railway employee arrived and restored the escalator to operation, providing relief to waiting passengers.
Passengers have suggested that if escalators require shutdown for technical maintenance or repairs, such work should preferably be scheduled during non-peak hours when passenger movement is relatively low. They have stressed that escalators and lifts should remain fully operational during train arrivals and departures to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
Commuters have appealed to the railway administration to exercise greater vigilance in the operation and maintenance of passenger facilities and ensure that escalators and lifts function regularly during scheduled train timings.
