Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh has achieved a remarkable milestone in the successful implementation of rural housing initiatives by providing permanent houses to more than 50,000 rural families. This achievement has been made possible through the effective execution of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), PM Jan Man Yojana and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, enabling thousands of needy families to begin a new life marked by safety, dignity and stability.

Historic Achievement on National Panchayati Raj Day

On the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, Bilaspur district registered a historic accomplishment in rural development by delivering permanent housing to 50,044 families. The district administration prioritized transparency and timely execution while implementing the schemes.

A total amount of ₹781.13 crore was transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This mechanism eliminated the role of middlemen and accelerated construction activities across rural areas.

Block-Wise Performance Reflects Administrative Efficiency

A closer look at regional data highlights the scale of implementation across development blocks. Masturi Development Block topped the district with completion of 14,973 houses. Bilha followed with 13,762 houses, Kota recorded completion of 11,205 houses, while Takhatpur registered 10,104 completed units.

These figures not only demonstrate administrative efficiency but also reflect the effective grassroots-level execution of welfare schemes.

Women Empowerment at the Core of Success

‘Nari Shakti’ played a pivotal role behind this achievement. The district administration trained 113 women as “Rani Mistris,” enabling them to actively participate in construction work and become financially self-reliant.

Additionally, 331 women were appointed as “Dealer Didis,” entrusted with the responsibility of supplying construction materials locally, thereby improving resource availability. Another 2,231 women were encouraged to provide shuttering materials on rent, which accelerated construction work while creating new income opportunities for women.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Bilaspur district has completed a total of 1,03,873 houses between 2016-17 and 2025-26, securing the second position in Chhattisgarh. This achievement reflects strong planning, continuous monitoring and active public participation.

The human impact of the scheme remains equally significant. Beneficiaries such as Jhangli Baiga of village Darsagar and Kailasha Bai of village Nevsa, who had spent years living in fragile kutcha houses under difficult conditions, now live safely and with dignity in permanent homes. For them, the houses symbolize not just shelter but security, self-respect and hope for a better future.

Administration Calls Achievement a Matter of Pride

The Collector of Bilaspur described the milestone as a proud moment for the district, stating that these 50,000 houses are not merely structures made of bricks and cement but foundations of dignity and security for poor families.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat emphasized that ensuring transparency and commitment in delivering benefits to every eligible beneficiary will remain the administration’s priority in the future as well.
