Directs officials to improve cleanliness, strengthen waste management, and streamline operations at Bharakapara SLRM Centre

Newly appointed Municipal Commissioner G.R. Markam conducted his first ward inspection on Friday, reviewing sanitation arrangements in Gol Bazaar and several key commercial areas of Rajnandgaon city. During the visit, he instructed municipal officials to further improve cleanliness, ensure prompt removal of garbage, and maintain special attention to hygiene in busy market areas.
The Commissioner also inspected the Bharakapara Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) Centre, where he reviewed the waste processing system and directed officials to strengthen waste management and maintain better sanitation within the facility.
Focus on Cleanliness in Major Market Areas
Commissioner Markam conducted an on-foot inspection of Gol Bazaar, Jai Stambh Chowk, Cinema Line, and Ganj Chowk, interacting with the municipal sanitation staff.

He instructed the health and sanitation wing to:
- Complete thorough cleaning of market areas before shops open.
- Ensure daily cleaning around Jai Stambh Chowk.
- Remove garbage and unnecessary materials lying near electrical transformers.
- Keep public spaces free from waste and obstructions.
- Clean roads and drains before the commencement of daily business activities.
He also directed officials to construct a one-foot boundary wall on vacant land near drains where debris and construction waste were being dumped to prevent further littering and maintain hygiene.
Drain Cleaning Ahead of Monsoon
During his inspection of the drain near Ganj Chowk, the Commissioner instructed officials to carry out comprehensive cleaning to ensure smooth drainage of rainwater during the monsoon season and prevent waterlogging.
Inspection of Bharakapara SLRM Centre
As part of the inspection, Commissioner Markam visited the Bharakapara SLRM Centre to review the city’s waste processing and disposal mechanism.

After interacting with the centre in-charge, he directed officials to:
- Ensure timely scientific disposal of collected waste.
- Dispose of accumulated scrap materials through the appropriate process.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the SLRM facility.
- Store the low-bed trolley inside the shed instead of leaving it outside.
- Repair the borewell pump and improve water drainage arrangements within the premises.
- Strengthen other basic infrastructure wherever required.
Strengthening Door-to-Door Waste Collection
The Commissioner also reviewed the city’s door-to-door waste collection system and instructed sanitation staff to ensure:
- Separate collection of wet and dry waste.
- Public awareness campaigns encouraging residents to place dustbins outside their homes before the scheduled collection time.
- Timely and efficient waste collection across all wards.
He emphasized that better public participation and disciplined waste segregation are essential for maintaining a cleaner and healthier city.
The inspection was attended by In-Charge Health Officer Rajesh Mishra, Sanitation Inspector Deepak Shrivastava, and members of the municipal sanitation team.
