Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh on Tuesday paid rich tributes to Mamta-Mayee Minimata, hailing her as a symbol of women’s empowerment and social justice. Addressing a large gathering at the Mamta-Mayee Minimata Nirvan Diwas, organised at the Guru Ghasidas Cultural Hall in Rajnandgaon, Dr. Singh lauded Minimata’s remarkable contribution as the first woman Member of Parliament from Madhya Pradesh in 1952 and her lifelong struggle against social evils and discriminatory practices.

During the programme, Dr. Singh administered the oath of office to the newly elected office-bearers of the District Satnami Seva Samiti. Responding to the committee’s request, he announced ₹10 lakh for development works in the region. He also felicitated meritorious students, presenting them with mementos in recognition of their achievements.

Highlighting Minimata’s legacy, Dr. Singh recalled her relentless fight for the abolition of untouchability, her strong advocacy for the Untouchability Offences Act in Parliament, and her efforts to promote Guru Ghasidas’s message of “Manus to Manus Ek Saman” (All humans are equal) across the world. He emphasised that Minimata worked tirelessly to unite society and uplift women, serving as an inspiration for modern initiatives such as the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

Dr. Singh further announced that the allocation under the Scheduled Caste Development Authority had been increased to ₹75 crore to support the development of SC-dominated villages. He also mentioned that the Women’s Polytechnic College is named after Minimata and that a statue of her will be installed on the campus.

The event was attended by Dongargarh MLA Harshita Baghel, former MLA Ramji Bharti, Rajnandgaon Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, senior officials including Additional Collector C.L. Marankdey, and several community leaders such as District Satnami Seva Samiti President Yuvrajdas Dheerher and Vice President Kamleshwar Sande. The ceremony witnessed a large turnout of public representatives and members of the Satnami community, who gathered to honor Minimata’s enduring legacy.

अनिया नवागांव के खेतों में सिंचाई जल न मिलने से ग्रामीण परेशान

राजनांदगांव के नवागांव में सिंचाई जल की किल्लत से किसान परेशान हैं। नहर से पानी छोड़े जाने पर बीच के गांवों में अवरोध डालकर पानी रोक दिए जाने से खेत सूख रहे हैं। अधिकारी से मिलने ग्रामीण दिनभर कार्यालय में इंतजार करते रहे, पर कोई जिम्मेदार नहीं मिला। करीब 200 किसानों की 750 एकड़ धान की फसल बचाने के लिए तत्काल पानी छोड़े जाने की मांग की गई है।
