In a landmark move to bolster tribal education and preserve cultural heritage, the Madhya Pradesh government has unveiled plans to recruit 5,000 hostel superintendents starting next year. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, targets the state’s tribal welfare department-operated hostels and ashram schools, aiming to enhance oversight and quality of residential education for indigenous students.

Under the new directives, all girls’ hostels and ashram schools will be renamed in honor of the legendary Gond queen Rani Durgavati, a symbol of valor and resistance against Mughal invaders in the 16th century. Similarly, all boys’ hostels and ashram schools will bear the names of Raja Shankar Shah and Raja Raghunath Shah, the revered freedom fighters from the 1857 Revolt who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence.

This dual announcement comes on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the iconic tribal leader and freedom fighter. The recruitment drive is expected to create significant employment opportunities while addressing staffing shortages in remote tribal areas. Officials from the Tribal Affairs Department stated that the renaming will instill pride in students and reinforce Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to honoring its tribal icons.

The move has been widely praised for its focus on empowering tribal youth through improved infrastructure and cultural recognition. Applications for the warden positions are set to open early next year, with priority given to candidates from scheduled tribes.
