A Massive Gathering Pays Homage to the Late Senior Journalist at His Terahvin Ceremony in Rajnandgaon

“Journalists like Rajendra Vyas are rare.” With these words, Raipur Police Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Shukla paid a heartfelt tribute to veteran journalist and Amrit Sandesh newspaper’s Rajnandgaon Bureau Chief, late Rajendra Vyas, during his Terahvin and श्रद्धांजलि सभा held in the city on Monday.
Recalling his association with the veteran journalist from his days as Superintendent of Police in Rajnandgaon, Dr Shukla said that he had not only closely observed Rajendra Vyas but had also known him personally. He described him as a distinguished senior journalist who remained far removed from glamour and was an embodiment of simplicity. At the same time, he was always at the forefront of public service.
Dr Shukla said that during his tenure as SP, he had observed that Rajendra Vyas was a unique senior journalist who maintained connections with people from every section of society. His deep and accurate understanding of a large number of people was remarkable. “In reality, he was a pioneer for journalists across the region,” he said.
Dr Pushpa Singh said that Rajendra Vyas would first understand and examine issues in depth before publishing them as news, ensuring justice for every section of society.
Senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Sabera Sanket, Sushil Kothari, said that the journalistic fraternity had lost a senior and reliable journalist. He said that discussions with Rajendra Vyas frequently revolved around various issues concerning the city, district and the region and their coverage as news.
Deepak Buddhadev, Editor-in-Chief of Dawa newspaper, said that Rajendra Vyas was like an elder brother to him. He said that he had received affection from him and had continuously got opportunities to learn from his experience. His wide understanding of issues consistently generated news.
Rajiv Vora, Managing Director of the Amrit Sandesh newspaper group, said that the group had lost a decades-old, reliable, honest and outstanding journalist whose loss would be extremely difficult to fill.
Editor Girish Vora said that during Rajendra Vyas’s association with the group, the organisation never faced any problem related to news coverage in Rajnandgaon district and the wider region.
Shatabdi Subodh Pandey, spokesperson of the BJP Mahila State Cell, spoke about Rajendra Vyas’s journalistic journey and said that he was the husband of her late elder sister Alka Vyas, which had given her the opportunity to understand him closely. She said that behind his simple appearance lay an extraordinary personality.
Dr Brijkishore Surjan said that Rajendra Vyas was always at the forefront of helping the poor and needy and had also served as an inspiration for young journalists.
Additional Director General of Police Amit Kumar said that the police administration regularly interacts with journalists. Among hundreds of journalists, Rajendra Vyas stood out as a distinctive, engaging and alert journalist.

Dr D.C. Jain said that the city had lost one of its distinguished sons.
Padma Shri Dr Pukhraj Bafna said that he had shared a relationship with Rajendra Vyas for decades. He said that Vyas was aware of every major issue and development across the region and gave them prominence in his news coverage.
Former Dalli Rajhara journalist and currently a senior journalist in Raipur, Babulal Sharma, said that Rajendra Vyas was younger to him in age but was a close friend. He said that whenever they discussed news or engaged in general conversation, hours would pass unnoticed. His passing away was a personal loss, he said.
Rajnandgaon Press Club President Sachin Agrahari said that journalists had received renewed energy through the guidance and association of Rajendra Vyas as the club’s patron. “The departure of this pioneer has created a void in journalism across the region,” he said.
Senior physician Dr Arun Shankar Dixit said that while remaining among ordinary journalists, Rajendra Vyas was so alert and perceptive that he could identify a news story in an instant.
At the beginning of the श्रद्धांजलि सभा, the late Rajendra Vyas’s son Ankit Raj Vyas, Principal of Gayatri Vidyapeeth, daughter-in-law Pooja Vyas and grandson Vishveshraj Vyas expressed gratitude to those present. They said that the presence of distinguished citizens of the city had provided strength and support to the Vyas family.
Speaking about the life and work of their father, they said that he had ruled the hearts of people—an honour that, they said, is granted only to the fortunate.
The late journalist’s brothers Vijay Kumar Vyas, Arun Vyas, Avinash Vyas and Ghanshyam Acharya, who arrived from Bikaner in Rajasthan, said that the people of Chhattisgarh had not merely accepted their “Vyasू” but had also given him a place in their hearts. They said they were deeply grateful to witness such affection.
Bhajan performances were presented during the programme by Hardik Palan, Atul Vyas and Gopal Palan under the leadership of Dinesh Sahu.
Senior journalist Sanjeev Verma of Amrit Sandesh Raipur, Manager Mr Sahu, District Congress Committee President Vipin Yadav, City Congress Committee President Jitendra Mudaliyar, former councillor Ashok Fadnavis, Anees Khan, Leader of Opposition Santosh Pille, social workers, distinguished citizens, officers and employees, traders, public representatives, BJP and Congress councillors and former councillors of the Municipal Corporation, teachers and journalists attended the श्रद्धांजलि सभा in large numbers.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker and Rajnandgaon MLA Dr Raman Singh, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, T.S. Singh Deo, MLA Dr Charan Das Mahant, Pradeep Chaubey, MLA Dhaneshwar Sahu, former MLA Ravindra Choubey, Khujji MLA Bholaram Sahu, Dongargaon MLA Bholaram Sahu, Mayor Madhusudan Yadav, former Mayor Hema Deshmukh, Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Collector Jitendra Yadav, District Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, along with state ministers and former ministers, also spoke to the late Rajendra Vyas’s son Ankit Vyas over the telephone and expressed their condolences and conveyed strength to the bereaved family.
