The implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission has brought a significant transformation to Kanhardabri village under Dongargaon development block in Rajnandgaon district, with clean drinking water now reaching every household through functional tap connections.

Villagers recall that water scarcity once dominated daily life in the village. Residents often had to stand in long queues at hand pumps, many of which frequently broke down, causing inconvenience and delays. The situation became particularly severe during summer months when water availability dropped further, affecting routine activities and household work.

Following the approval of the “Har Ghar Jal” initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission, awareness about the scheme was shared with residents through Gram Sabha meetings. Subsequently, work began on laying pipelines, constructing an overhead water tank, and providing individual household tap connections. The project also saw active participation from local villagers, which helped ensure timely completion.

With the scheme now operational, households in Kanhardabri are receiving regular access to safe drinking water through taps installed in their homes. Residents no longer need to travel long distances or wait for water, significantly improving their quality of life.

Women in the village have particularly benefited from the initiative. Earlier, a considerable portion of their day was spent fetching water, but with tap connections now available, they are able to utilize their time more productively. Many women are participating more actively in self-help group activities and other income-generating work, contributing to household income and economic independence.

The availability of clean drinking water has also led to improvements in public health and sanitation conditions in the village. Reduced dependence on unsafe water sources has lowered the risk of waterborne diseases, while improved hygiene practices have enhanced overall community well-being.

Today, Kanhardabri village stands as a successful example of effective implementation of government rural infrastructure programs. Officials attribute the positive outcomes to coordinated efforts between the administration and community participation, highlighting how development initiatives can create meaningful change at the grassroots level.
