Jal Arpan Diwas was celebrated with enthusiasm in Baghmar village under Dongargaon Janpad Panchayat of Rajnandgaon district, with the objective of promoting water conservation as a people’s movement and ensuring safe and sustainable water resources for future generations. The program highlighted community participation in managing rural water supply systems and conserving natural resources.

Janpad Panchayat Dongargaon Vice Chairman Manish Kumar Sahu and District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Suruchi Singh attended the event as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, Sahu emphasized that water is the foundation of life and every drop is precious, urging villagers to actively participate in conservation efforts. CEO Suruchi Singh encouraged residents to adopt rainwater harvesting practices, protect local water sources, and avoid wastage of water to ensure long-term sustainability.

On the occasion, villagers were administered a collective pledge to conserve water and safeguard water sources. Representatives from the Public Health Engineering Department and Jal Bahini team provided awareness on water quality, safe drinking water practices, and effective water management techniques.

Officials explained that the purpose of Jal Arpan Diwas is to formally hand over completed rural water supply infrastructure to the Gram Panchayat and the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC). This transfer ensures that the system comes under community ownership, enabling villagers to understand its functioning and take pride in its operation and maintenance. It also confirms that the village is technically, financially, and institutionally prepared to manage its water supply system independently.

The program was attended by Janpad Panchayat member Genda Bai, Village Sarpanch Urvashi Dhruv, Janpad Panchayat CEO Roshni Bhagat, Executive Engineer (Public Health Engineering) Palak Kothari, Assistant Engineer Vinod Kumar Singh, along with officials, staff members, Jal Bahini representatives, and a large number of villagers.
