Gujarat, is emerging as a cornerstone of India’s ambitious “Make in India, Make for the World” vision, transforming the nation into a global powerhouse for railway equipment exports. The city’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, led by Alstom’s Savli plant, are producing high-quality metro coaches, bogies, locomotives, and propulsion systems that are now reaching countries like Australia, Canada, the UK, Saudi Arabia, France, Mexico, Romania, Spain, Germany, and Italy.
This export surge not only showcases India’s engineering prowess but also creates thousands of jobs, boosting the local economy and reinforcing Vadodara’s role as a hub of innovation.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw recently highlighted Vadodara’s pivotal contribution, noting that the Savli facility employs around 7,000 engineers, with 300 working on international projects. Since 2016, India has exported over 1,002 rail cars, establishing itself as a trusted supplier of modern rail systems worldwide.
The facility’s focus on cutting-edge technology, including AI-driven maintenance and customized designs, aligns with global standards, making Indian railway equipment highly competitive.
