Rajnandgaon City Kotwali Police sends accused to judicial custody; search underway for listed history-sheeter involved in knife attack

The City Kotwali Police of Rajnandgaon have arrested one accused in an attempt to murder case and sent him to jail on judicial remand, while another accused involved in the incident remains absconding. Police teams are actively searching for the second accused.
Complaint Registered After Birthday Celebration Incident
According to information received from the police, complainant Anup Yadav alias Mundu (29), a resident of Baldevbagh, behind Moti Talab, Rajnandgaon, lodged a report at the police station on April 25, 2026. He stated that on the intervening night of April 24–25, he had gone to Gandhi Chowk to celebrate the birthday of his friend Shoaib Khan.
After the cake-cutting ceremony, during the celebration, an argument broke out between Rakesh Soni alias Tufan and Mahmood Ali, which was pacified by the complainant.
Knife Attack Attempt Following Dispute
Angered by the intervention, Rakesh Soni alias Tufan and Rakesh Shrivas alias Kalu allegedly attempted to attack the complainant by striking his neck with a knife. The complainant defended himself by raising his hand, resulting in a serious injury between his thumb and finger.
The complainant stated that had he not blocked the attack with his hand, the assault could have proved fatal.
Case Registered Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Police registered Crime No. 223/26 against the accused under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Considering the seriousness of the incident, senior police officers were immediately informed.
Acting on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma, under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Kirtan Rathore and City Superintendent of Police Alexander Kiron, a special team was constituted under the leadership of Station In-charge Inspector Milan Singh.
Accused Arrested; Weapon Recovered
The police team conducted a coordinated operation and arrested accused Rakesh Shrivas (43), a resident of Gaushala Market, Gandhi Chowk. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime along with his associate Rakesh Soni alias Tufan.
Police recovered an iron sharp-edged knife used in the incident from the possession of the accused. He was arrested on April 25 and produced before the court on April 26, following which he was sent to jail.
Absconding Accused Identified as Listed Criminal
The absconding accused, Rakesh Soni alias Tufan, is a listed history-sheeter of the police station area, and search operations are currently underway to trace him.
According to police records, arrested accused Rakesh Shrivas is a habitual offender with several previous cases registered against him under the Gambling Act, Arms Act, assault, and other offences. The complainant Anup Yadav alias Mundu is also described as a habitual offender, with multiple cases related to assault, excise violations, gambling, and knife-related incidents registered at various police stations.
Police Team Appreciated for Swift Action
Inspector Milan Singh, Sub-Inspector Dhaniram Narange, Head Constable Sandeep Chauhan, Constable Puran Verma, and Ashwani Thakur played a commendable role in the successful execution of the operation.
