Calls for Strong Departmental Coordination to Develop Durg as a Model District

Principal Secretary and In-charge Secretary of Durg district, Sonmani Bora, chaired a review meeting of district officials in Durg to assess the progress of various government schemes. He emphasized effective implementation of welfare programmes, strong departmental coordination and prompt resolution of public grievances.
The meeting was held at the Public Works Department office auditorium, where he stated that Durg has historically remained an important district of the state from social, economic, educational and administrative perspectives. He urged officials to work with better coordination to preserve this identity and develop Durg into a model district through inter-departmental cooperation.
Focus on Timely Public Service Delivery
During the review meeting, Shri Bora said that ensuring quick access to departmental services for citizens is the primary responsibility of officers. He directed officials to ensure quality disposal of applications received during the state government’s ambitious Sushasan Tihar camps with seriousness and sensitivity.
District Collector Abhijeet Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal, and officers from various departments were present at the meeting.
Emphasis on Drinking Water, Drain Cleaning and PM Housing
Highlighting preparations for the summer season, the In-charge Secretary directed officials to ensure availability of clean drinking water for citizens and arrange water supply through tankers wherever required.
He also instructed departments to undertake pre-monsoon cleaning of major drains, remove encroachments and strictly follow SOPs during septic tank cleaning operations. In urban areas, he stressed expediting construction work under approved Pradhan Mantri Awas projects and organizing beneficiary conferences to motivate people for timely completion of houses.
MGNREGA Wage Payments Begin
While reviewing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) works, officials informed that pending wage payments worth approximately ₹30.83 crore, pending since January 14, 2026, have been sanctioned by the government and payments have started reaching workers’ bank accounts.
Shri Bora directed all Janpad Panchayat CEOs and employment assistants to directly contact workers, inform them about wage payments and ensure immediate resolution of payment-related issues.
Focus on Lakhpati Didi, Health and Education
Officials informed that under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), out of the target of 78,411 women in the district, 37,000 women have already become “Lakhpati Didis.”
During the health department review, the Principal Secretary instructed officials to promote institutional deliveries, aim for zero infant mortality and ensure availability of essential healthcare services. He also directed authorities to curb the sale of intoxicants near schools and hostels and complete all necessary repair and improvement works in hostels by June 16.
Transparent Distribution of Fertiliser and Seeds
The Agriculture Department was instructed to prepare a detailed fertiliser distribution plan for the upcoming Kharif season and ensure adequate availability. Shri Bora emphasized transparent distribution of fertilisers and seeds to farmers and ordered strict action against black marketing of chemical fertilisers.
During the Forest Department review, officials informed that a plantation target of 1.46 lakh saplings has been set under the Farmer Tree Mitra Scheme. The Chicha and Belaudi areas have also been declared wetlands.
Departmental Presentations and Participation
Senior Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal presented various policing initiatives through a PowerPoint presentation. The meeting was attended by Divisional Forest Officer Deepesh Kapil, Additional District Magistrate Virendra Singh, Additional Collector Yogita Dewangan, along with officials from multiple departments.
