In a momentous celebration of Chhattisgarh’s silver jubilee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the state’s sprawling new Legislative Assembly complex in Nava Raipur, hailing it as a “golden chapter” in the region’s journey of progress and self-reliance. The event, part of the grand Chhattisgarh Rajat Mahotsav, underscored the state’s evolution from its formation on November 1, 2000, under the visionary leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to a beacon of sustainable development and cultural pride.

The Rs 324 crore project, spanning 51 acres and covering over 5 lakh square feet, embodies the theme “Dharti Dhurandhar” – a tribute to Chhattisgarh’s resilient spirit, tribal heritage, and agricultural bounty. Designed with eco-conscious features, the complex includes solar panels for full energy self-sufficiency, rainwater harvesting systems, and expansive green spaces. Its architecture seamlessly blends local motifs: ceilings etched with intricate rice grain patterns symbolizing the state’s “Rice Bowl” status, tribal artwork adorning doors and walls from Bastar’s artisans, and modern amenities like a 500-seat auditorium, parking for 850 vehicles, and integrated public facilities including allopathic, homeopathic, and Ayurvedic hospitals, a bank, post office, and canteen on the lower ground floor.

Golden Milestone: PM Modi Unveils Chhattisgarh's New Assembly on 25th Foundation Day "Chhattisgarh Statehood Day"

The assembly hall, currently seating 200 members (expandable to 120 post-delimitation), stands as a testament to forward-thinking governance. “This is not just a building; it’s the fulfillment of 25 years of the people’s aspirations, struggles, and pride,” Modi declared during his address, linking the occasion to the ideals of “Ram Rajya” – a vision of equitable society free from discrimination and rooted in social justice. He praised the state’s transformation, noting how areas once plagued by Naxalism are now thriving hubs of development.

A highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of a majestic bronze statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at the complex’s entrance, surrounded by landscaped gardens. “Atal ji breathed life into Chhattisgarh’s soul by granting it statehood. Today, as we inaugurate this assembly and his statue, his dream finds new wings,” the Prime Minister said, evoking applause from schoolchildren waving the tricolour. In a poignant environmental gesture, Modi planted a Rudraksha sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, reinforcing the commitment to conservation and urging citizens to nurture the planet as a tribute to their mothers.

The inauguration capped a series of development announcements worth Rs 14,260 crore, including road networks, healthcare initiatives, and energy projects. Earlier, Modi interacted with over 2,500 children who had undergone successful congenital heart surgeries at the Sathya Sai Heart Care Hospital, sharing stories of hope and resilience. He also laid the foundation for the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Memorial and the Tribal Freedom Fighters Museum, celebrating the unsung heroes of Chhattisgarh’s independence struggle.

The dignitaries present added grace to the occasion, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Governor Raman Deka, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Leader of Opposition Charan Das Mahant, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap. Chief Minister Sai lauded Modi’s leadership, stating, “This assembly is a symbol of our state’s maturity in democracy, built with local hands and hearts.”

As fireworks lit up the evening sky and cultural performances echoed Chhattisgarhi folk traditions, the event resonated with a message of unity and progress. With its blend of heritage and innovation, the new Vidhan Sabha complex not only modernizes governance but also positions Chhattisgarh as a model for sustainable urban development in India’s heartland. As the state steps into its next chapter, Modi’s visit leaves an indelible mark of inspiration for generations to come.
