In a significant step towards reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, the Rajnandgaon district administration has launched a focused initiative to provide free sonography and essential health check-ups to high-risk pregnant women.

The initiative is being implemented under the direction of Collector Jitendra Yadav, with the objective of identifying high-risk pregnancies at an early stage and ensuring timely medical intervention to safeguard both mother and child.

As part of the program, pregnant women identified as high-risk are being provided free ultrasound examinations and other necessary medical tests during their pregnancy. This enables doctors to detect possible complications early and provide appropriate treatment.

During the current week, 85 pregnant women underwent sonography examinations under the initiative. The district administration has set a target to conduct two free sonography tests for every identified high-risk pregnant woman during the course of her pregnancy.

Identification of such cases is being carried out through analysis of registered pregnant women in the district, allowing health officials to provide targeted medical services and monitoring.

According to Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Netaram Navratan, a total of 1,850 registered high-risk pregnant women in the district have already received free sonography and necessary health check-ups so far.

He said the main objective of the initiative is to reduce maternal and infant mortality while ensuring safe motherhood for women in the district. In the coming weeks, all registered high-risk pregnancies will continue to receive free sonography and other required medical services.

Health officials are also closely monitoring these cases. A list of high-risk pregnant women has been prepared, and they are being contacted weekly via phone to provide health guidance and counseling.

Additionally, Mitanin community health workers are visiting the homes of pregnant women daily 15 days before their expected delivery date to monitor their health condition and ensure timely medical assistance if required.

The program is being supervised at the block level by Block Medical Officers and the Block Program Unit, while free ambulance services are also being provided to transport high-risk pregnant women from rural and urban areas to sonography centres.

The Chief Medical and Health Officer also reviewed the progress of district and block-level units and issued directions to ensure the effective implementation of the program across the district.
