The Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation has appealed to taxpayers to clear their pending property tax before March 31 to avoid additional charges. Municipal Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma urged citizens to pay their dues within the current financial year to prevent penalties.

According to the civic administration, regular review meetings are being conducted by Mayor Madhusudan Yadav and Commissioner Atul Vishwakarma with officials and employees of the revenue department to accelerate tax collection in line with the government’s target for the financial year.

Officials said ward in-charges are visiting households and also collecting taxes at the corporation’s revenue office to ensure maximum recovery. Taxpayers have been requested to pay their dues before March 31 and avoid the surcharge imposed after the deadline. Citizens can also make payments on holidays, the commissioner noted.

The municipal commissioner has been reviewing ward-wise revenue collection regularly and directing officials to speed up the process wherever the recovery rate is low. Ward in-charges with less than 30 percent collection have been specifically instructed to intensify efforts and improve performance. Authorities stated that disciplinary action is being taken in cases where recovery remains unsatisfactory even after warnings.

In addition to office-based collections, door-to-door recovery drives have been launched. The civic body is also facilitating digital payments through QR code systems to make tax payments easier and more convenient for residents.

Commissioner Vishwakarma has instructed revenue officers, revenue inspectors and assistant revenue inspectors to ensure strict enforcement of tax collection before the end of the financial year. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials who fail to meet the government’s prescribed targets.

The commissioner further directed officials to publish the names of long-term defaulters and initiate action such as disconnection of water supply for those who have not paid taxes for an extended period. He also ordered the sealing of municipal-owned shops where premium payments remain unpaid and where tenants have failed to deposit rent for a long time.

The civic administration clarified that March 31 is the final deadline for tax payments in the current financial year. After this date, a surcharge of 5 percent will be levied on property tax and 15 percent on water tax.

Commissioner Vishwakarma reiterated his appeal to all taxpayers to clear their pending dues before the deadline and avoid the additional financial burden of penalties.
