₹55.45-Crore Infrastructure Project Expected to Enhance Connectivity to Major Religious and Tourist Destinations

Major Infrastructure Initiative Moves Forward
In a significant step toward developing Dongargarh as one of the country’s leading religious and tourism destinations, the proposed 8-kilometre-long Four-Lane Parikrama Path project is progressing rapidly.
The project was included in the First Supplementary Budget for the financial year 2024-25, and the Public Works Department of the State Government granted administrative approval worth ₹55 crore 45 lakh 57 thousand on March 18, 2025.
Land Acquisition Process in Final Stage
According to information received from the Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, the proposed four-lane road will have a total length of 8 kilometres.
Of the total alignment, 4.475 kilometres will pass through government land, while 3.525 kilometres will be constructed on private land. The project requires the acquisition of 6.386 hectares (approximately 15.78 acres) of private land.
The acquisition process will affect 46 farmers from the villages of Gajmarra, Rajkatta, Kurrubhath, and Chhirpani.
To compensate the affected landowners, an award proposal amounting to approximately ₹6 crore 33 lakh 22 thousand 720 has been submitted before the Collector of Rajnandgaon.
Legal Formalities Underway
As part of the land acquisition process, public notices have already been issued in all four villages. Efforts to obtain consent from farmers and complete other statutory procedures are currently underway.
The administration has also taken necessary preventive measures to curb unauthorized land transactions within the project area and to safeguard the interests of the original landowners.
Improved Access to Major Religious Destinations
The Parikrama Path is expected to provide improved connectivity to several important religious and tourism destinations in and around Dongargarh.
The route will offer easier and safer access to:
- Pragyagiri Buddhist Vihar
- Maa Bamleshwari Temple
- Jatashankar Hills
- Chandragiri Jain Temple
- Pratibha Sthal
- Satnam Pilgrimage Site
- Khatu Shyam Temple
The enhanced connectivity is expected to significantly improve the experience of pilgrims and tourists visiting the region.

Construction Target Set at 18 Months
According to the Public Works Department, the construction work is targeted for completion within approximately 18 months after the completion of the tendering process.
The proposed four-lane road will have an average width of 25 metres.
Officials believe that upon completion, the project will provide safe and organized transportation facilities for devotees, promote tourism activities, stimulate local trade and economic growth, and contribute significantly to the beautification and overall development of the Dongargarh region.
