Cricket’s ‘God’ Sachin Tendulkar arrived in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region (Dantewada) on April 22, 2026, along with his entire family — wife Anjali, daughter Sara, and other family members. The visit turned into a memorable and heartwarming occasion as the cricket icon received a grand and enthusiastic welcome from locals and tribal children.
Warm Welcome and Joyful Moments with ChildrenUpon reaching Chhindnar village in Dantewada, Sachin and his family were warmly welcomed with traditional garlands made of Sihadi seeds. They visited the Swami Atmanand Hindi Medium High School, where Sachin spent quality time interacting with tribal children.
He actively participated in various games, including tug of war, cricket, and other fun activities, turning into a child himself alongside the excited kids. The children were thrilled to play with the legendary cricketer, creating several viral and emotional moments. Sachin shared his experiences, motivated the young ones, and expressed how happy he was to be in Bastar.
He described the region as full of “diamonds that need polishing” and highlighted the efforts to build sports infrastructure in remote areas.50 Multi-Sports Playgrounds: A Gift for Over 5,000 ChildrenThrough the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation in collaboration with the Mann Deshi Foundation, around 50 modern multi-sports playgrounds are being developed across villages in the Bastar division, particularly in Dantewada district.
Sachin inaugurated one such multi-sports ground at the school in Chhindnar. These grounds will provide facilities for multiple sports including cricket, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, athletics, and more. The initiative, under the ‘Maidan Cup’, aims to give over 5,000 children a proper platform to showcase and develop their talent.
Sachin expressed delight that nearly 50 school playgrounds have already been developed in government schools, with professional training being provided to teachers and structured coaching for children — many of whom are experiencing organized sports for the first time.A Powerful Symbol of Peace, Development, and New BeginningsBastar, which was long affected by Naxal (Maoist) violence, has seen a significant transformation.
