Expansion inspired by Amit Shah’s cooperative policy aims to deliver agricultural services directly to villages; nearly 97,000 farmers set to benefit

In a major and historic step toward strengthening the cooperative sector, 136 new cooperative societies have been inaugurated simultaneously in Rajnandgaon district. With this initiative, nearly 97,305 farmers across about 620 villages will now gain easier access to fertilizers, seeds, agricultural credit, and other essential services closer to their homes.
The initiative is being seen not merely as an administrative exercise but as a continuation of a strong cooperative foundation laid years ago, now moving toward wider grassroots expansion.
Facilities Now Available Within Farmers’ Own Areas
The inauguration programme was organised in Anjora under the leadership of District Cooperative Central Bank Chairman Sachin Singh Baghel. Addressing the gathering, he said farmers had long faced difficulties due to distance and overcrowding at large cooperative societies.
With the formation of new societies, farmers will now receive services within their own regions, leading to significant savings in both time and money.
Baghel emphasized that decentralizing cooperative services would make agricultural support systems more accessible and efficient for rural communities.
Raman Singh Connects Virtually with Farmers
A highlight of the event was the virtual participation of former Chief Minister and current Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh, who interacted directly with farmers.
During the interaction, farmers recalled the strengthening of the cooperative sector during his tenure and expressed gratitude for the institutional framework developed at that time. His contribution toward expanding and stabilizing the cooperative network in Chhattisgarh continues to be regarded as a strong foundation upon which current expansion efforts are being built.
National Push to Cooperatives Under Amit Shah
The importance of the cooperative movement has also gained renewed recognition at the national level. The Union Government established a dedicated Ministry of Cooperation for the first time, entrusting its responsibility to Amit Shah.
Large-scale efforts are underway across the country to strengthen cooperative institutions, and the impact of these policies is now becoming visible in various states, including Chhattisgarh.
State Government Driving Grassroots Expansion
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is focusing on expanding cooperative services to every village. Meanwhile, Cooperative Minister Kedar Kashyap has been guiding initiatives aimed at accelerating growth in the sector.
The creation of 136 new societies is part of this broader vision to ensure direct benefits reach farmers at the grassroots level.
Direct Benefits for Hundreds of Villages
At the ground level, the impact of the initiative is already visible:
- Under the Somni Society, 1,453 farmers from 8 villages will benefit.
- The Anjora Society will serve 1,687 farmers from 7 villages.
- The Manki Society will directly benefit 603 farmers across 4 villages.
Similarly, farmers from hundreds of villages across the district will become part of the cooperative network through this expansion.
Strengthening Rural Economy Through Cooperation
Experts believe that the expansion of cooperative societies will significantly strengthen the rural economy. Timely availability of loans, fertilizers, and seeds is expected to increase agricultural productivity and help farmers move steadily toward self-reliance.
