CM Vishnu Deo Sai Launches Electricity Bill Settlement Scheme 2026 in Chhattisgarh

Up to 75% rebate on principal and 100% waiver on surcharge for BPL and inactive consumers; over 2.08 lakh consumers in four districts to benefit

Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, has launched the Electricity Bill Payment Settlement Scheme 2026, aimed at providing financial relief to consumers struggling with long-pending electricity dues.

The scheme was formally inaugurated at the auditorium of the Government Medical College Raipur in Raipur. The initiative has been prepared under the guidance of Rohit Yadav, Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Power Companies, and Bhim Singh Kanwar, Managing Director of Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited.

Major Relief for Consumers

The scheme primarily targets low-tension domestic, BPL (Below Poverty Line), and agricultural category non-government consumers who have been facing financial pressure due to outstanding electricity bills.

Under the scheme, consumers can receive significant rebates on pending dues, including:

  • Up to 75% rebate on the principal amount for certain BPL consumers.
  • 100% waiver on surcharge (late payment charges) for eligible categories.
  • Flexible payment options through instalments for active consumers.

Over 2.08 Lakh Consumers to Benefit

The scheme will benefit approximately 2,08,251 consumers across four districts:

  • Rajnandgaon district – 100,303 consumers
  • Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai district – 29,491 consumers
  • Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district – 31,012 consumers
  • Kabirdham district – 47,445 consumers

To ensure maximum participation, special settlement camps are being organised at electricity distribution centres across these districts.

Benefits for Inactive Consumers

Consumers whose connections became inactive before March 31, 2023 will receive the following relief:

  • Inactive BPL consumers:
    • 75% rebate on principal amount
    • 100% waiver on surcharge
  • Inactive domestic consumers:
    • 50% rebate on principal amount
    • 100% waiver on surcharge
  • Inactive agricultural consumers:
    • 50% rebate on principal amount
    • 100% waiver on surcharge

Benefits for Active Consumers

For active BPL consumers with pending dues before March 31, 2023:

  • More than 5 years outstanding:
    • 75% rebate on principal amount
    • 100% waiver on surcharge
  • 1–5 years outstanding:
    • Lump-sum payment: 10% rebate on principal and 100% surcharge waiver
    • Payment in 3 instalments: 5% rebate on principal and 100% surcharge waiver
    • Payment in 6 instalments: no rebate on principal but 100% surcharge waiver

Consumers opting for instalment payments will not be charged additional surcharges in the coming months.

Simple Registration Process

Eligible consumers from active domestic and agricultural categories must register to avail the benefits of the scheme. To complete registration, consumers are required to deposit at least 10% of their total outstanding amount.

Incentives for Meter Readers

To encourage participation, the power department has also announced incentive rewards for meter readers:

  • ₹1,000 incentive if a consumer clears dues in a lump-sum payment through the meter reader’s motivation.
  • ₹500 incentive if the consumer completes payment through instalments.

Officials said the initiative aims to reduce pending electricity dues while offering financial relief to households and farmers, helping consumers regularise their electricity connections.
