Mainpat, popularly known as the “Shimla of Chhattisgarh” for its scenic valleys, waterfalls and lush greenery, is set to enter a new phase of tourism-led development. In a significant move, the state government has allotted 4.80 hectares (approximately 12 acres) of land in Mainpat to the Chhattisgarh Housing Board under the Atal Vihar Yojana to develop a modern, multi-purpose tourism and residential complex.

Chhattisgarh Housing Board Chairman Anurag Singh Deo said construction of the integrated complex would begin soon. Designed in harmony with the natural surroundings, the project aims to provide tourists with safe, affordable and high-quality accommodation while positioning Mainpat as a premium hill destination.

Among Mainpat’s iconic attractions is the Jalpari Tourism Point, known for its fairy-tale landscape marked by cool mountain breezes, deep valleys, cascading waterfalls and cloud-kissed hills. The area’s ever-changing seasonal colours and tranquil atmosphere have made it one of the region’s most admired viewpoints.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said Mainpat’s natural beauty resembles that of a mythical fairyland, where serene forests, flowing streams and pristine surroundings offer visitors a unique and immersive experience. He noted that the project reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism and regional development.

Chairman Anurag Singh Deo credited the initiative to the guidance of Chief Minister Sai and the coordinated efforts of Housing and Environment Minister O.P. Choudhary and Tourism Minister Rajesh Agrawal. He said the need for enhanced tourist infrastructure in Mainpat had long been felt, particularly in view of the steadily rising footfall.

The proposed complex will feature a wide range of modern wellness and recreational facilities. Planned amenities include a Kerala-model wellness centre, Panchakarma therapies, herbal spa services, AYUSH treatments, a 24×7 clubhouse, millets café, gymnasium, swimming pool, kids’ play area, steam bath and entertainment zone. Environment-friendly development will also include tree houses, cottages and a cultural zone showcasing local life and traditions.

Housing and Environment Minister O.P. Choudhary said Mainpat is emerging as one of Chhattisgarh’s most distinctive tourism destinations. With growing visitor numbers, the development of modern facilities has become essential. He added that the Housing Board’s initiative would give fresh momentum to tourism, housing and the local economy, helping place Mainpat prominently on the national tourism map.

Tourism Minister Rajesh Agrawal described the project as a milestone in Chhattisgarh’s tourism expansion. He said improved infrastructure would enhance visitor experiences, strengthen the hospitality sector and generate employment and business opportunities for local youth.

Nestled in the Surguja hills, Mainpat remains cool throughout the year and offers several attractions including Buddhist monasteries, Ulta Pani, Tiger Point, Jaljali, Mehta Point and sprawling tea gardens. Tourists from across Chhattisgarh and other states regularly visit the hill station, and the Tourism Department is now accelerating efforts to expand visitor amenities.

Anurag Singh Deo said the project would boost tourism activities, create local employment and open new opportunities in hospitality. Quality accommodation is expected to extend tourists’ length of stay, thereby strengthening the regional economy and laying the foundation for Mainpat’s emergence as a major national tourism hub.
