In a significant boost to India-Russia strategic partnership, President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in New Delhi on December 5 to participate in the plenary session of the Russia-India Business Forum, as confirmed by the event’s organizer Roscongress.

The forum, scheduled for December 4-5, will feature panel discussions on industrial cooperation, digital services, pharmaceutical exports, and expanding mutual trade opportunities. Putin’s attendance underscores the robust economic and defense ties between the two nations, with potential agreements on protecting Indian migrant workers in Russia and joint production in advanced sectors.

This will mark Putin’s first visit to India since December 2021, before the Ukraine conflict escalated, and comes as the 23rd annual India-Russia summit preparations reach a climax. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin are expected to hold bilateral talks, reviewing progress in energy, defense manufacturing, and geopolitical coordination.

The Kremlin has been actively preparing for the “substantive” trip, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov noting an announcement on details soon. Putin himself expressed eagerness for the visit during the Valdai Discussion Club, calling Modi a “dear friend” and highlighting the trust-based relationship.

Amid US tariffs on Indian goods over Russian oil imports, the visit signals India’s strategic autonomy and commitment to balanced diplomacy. Trade between the two countries has surged, with India emerging as a key buyer of discounted Russian energy.

As anticipation builds, the trip is poised to reinforce the “special and privileged strategic partnership,” potentially yielding new pacts in S-400 systems, Su-57 jets, and labor migration.
