The Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha has announced a public protest and effigy burning of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Naresh Tikait, following controversial remarks he allegedly made against India’s recent strategic decisions concerning Pakistan. The protest, spearheaded by BJP District President Komal Singh Rajput and Kisan Morcha District President Hirendra Sahu, is scheduled for April 30 at 11:00 AM in Rajnandgaon.
According to Hirendra Sahu, Tikait’s statements amount to “pro-Pakistan propaganda” and are “anti-national” in nature. The BJP Kisan Morcha is incensed over Tikait’s criticism of India’s proposed withdrawal from the Indus Waters Treaty and other diplomatic measures taken in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. “Defying a decision taken by the highest democratic leadership of the country, especially on sensitive national security matters, is not just irresponsible — it borders on sedition,” Sahu stated.
Following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the Government of India has taken a stern stance, including cancelling visas for Pakistani citizens and instructing Pakistani officials in India to leave. The BJP sees Tikait’s remarks as undermining these efforts and siding with the enemy.
As part of the protest, a rally will commence from Mahavir Chowk and proceed to Mahakal Chowk (near Manav Mandir), where Tikait’s effigy will be burned. The demonstration will conclude with the submission of a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding action against Tikait.
The BJP Kisan Morcha has also called for Tikait’s arrest, stating that his remarks insult the sacrifices of Indian soldiers and citizens and violate the spirit of national unity.
