BJP councillor and Chairman of Government Shivnath Science College, Ravi Sinha, has strongly criticized the statement made by the Leader of Opposition in the Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation, describing it as a reflection of the Congress party’s political frustration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Sinha alleged that a party which imposed the Emergency, curtailed democratic freedoms, jailed political activists, restricted press freedom and attempted to undermine the spirit of the Constitution cannot claim moral authority to lecture others on democracy.
He stated that the Congress continues to justify the Emergency by describing it as a constitutional measure, a position which, according to him, reveals the party’s approach towards democratic values. Sinha argued that the Emergency was not merely a political decision but a direct attack on the fundamental rights of millions of Indians, a chapter in history that the nation has not forgotten.
BJP Defends Democratic Institutions
Defending the current political environment, Sinha said that democratic institutions in the country have become stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He maintained that institutions such as the Election Commission, the judiciary, the media and other constitutional bodies are functioning independently.
According to him, actions taken by investigative agencies against individuals or political leaders are based on legal procedures and available evidence rather than political vendetta.
Response to Opposition's Criticism on Economy and Agriculture
Responding to allegations raised by the opposition regarding unemployment, inflation and the condition of farmers, Sinha highlighted several welfare and development initiatives undertaken by the Central Government.
He said that the government has achieved record levels of infrastructure development over the past few years and has provided housing, sanitation facilities, LPG connections and free food grains to millions of beneficiaries across the country.

The BJP leader also pointed to direct financial assistance being transferred to farmers through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He added that initiatives such as Startup India, the Mudra Yojana and various self-employment programmes have created new opportunities for young people.
Congress Accused of Political Irrelevance
Sinha further alleged that the Congress party is more concerned about its declining political relevance than addressing public issues. He claimed that instead of reflecting on its historical mistakes, the party continues to defend decisions that remain controversial in India’s political history.
He asserted that the public is well aware of what he described as the Congress party’s “double standards” and said that the repeated electoral mandates received by the BJP serve as evidence of public confidence in the party.
Concluding his remarks, Sinha said the Congress should engage in introspection rather than attempting to mislead the public and should examine why voters at both the national and state levels have repeatedly rejected the party.
