As part of the Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav 2025 celebrations, the Agriculture Department’s exhibition at the district-level Rajyotsav Fair attracted significant attention from farmers and local citizens. The central theme of the exhibition focused on Crop Rotation for Rabi 2025-26, emphasizing the importance of water conservation and soil health by encouraging farmers to adopt low water-demand crops in place of paddy.

The exhibition showcased the adverse effects of cultivating paddy, especially during the summer season, where excessive groundwater extraction leads to a rapid decline in the water table. This poses a serious threat not only to irrigation but also to future drinking water availability. Additionally, the exhibition portrayed environmental damage caused by stubble burning after paddy harvesting, contributing to air pollution. These issues were depicted in a visual and impactful manner, encouraging farmers to rethink their crop selection practices.

In response, the Agriculture Department displayed high-yielding, low water-requirement varieties of pulses and oilseeds such as gram, lentil, mustard, and groundnut. The aim was to help farmers make informed choices while adopting alternative crops. A large number of farmers were seen interacting with departmental officers, seeking guidance and discussing crop diversification.

The exhibition also featured products prepared by women self-help groups, including organic ragi, kodo, rice, cold-pressed mustard oil, and other value-added products. These items were produced under the Traditional Agriculture Development Scheme and Organic Farming Mission, promoting healthy and sustainable food practices.

Visitors and farmers alike appreciated the exhibition, noting that it was not only informative but also thought-provoking. The Agriculture Department’s stall emerged as one of the most discussed and admired attractions at this year’s Rajyotsav Fair.
