In a decisive move to preserve cultural values and curb rising social malpractices, the Pujya Sindhi Panchayat, Hemu Kalani Nagar has announced a series of restrictions on weddings and related ceremonies. The resolutions, conveyed to State President Mahesh Daryani during a special meeting, seek to restore sanctity in matrimonial rituals and eliminate practices deemed inappropriate.

Senior advisors Avtaram Tejwani, Arjundas Panjwani, Ghanshyamdas Gangwani, Gurmukhdas Wadhwa, and Panchayat President Mannumal Motlani stated that short-lived entertainment has been eroding traditional values, warranting immediate corrective action. As per the decision, pool parties, alcohol, beer, smoking, and hookah consumption at engagement or wedding venues have been completely banned. Serving liquor to the wedding procession en route or at open spaces is also strictly prohibited.

Additionally, pre-wedding shoots remain banned as per earlier directives. Indecent practices such as demanding money from the bride’s family when the procession arrives, lifting the groom on shoulders, or inappropriate behavior during rituals have also been outlawed. Roadside dancing by women in the wedding procession and the use of firecrackers are similarly forbidden.

General Secretary Harish Motlani emphasized that the “Var Mala” (garland exchange) is a sacred ritual that should be conducted with dignity and mutual respect, without mockery or ridicule. Publicity heads Amar Lalwani and Arun Doolani clarified that these rules will also apply to weddings held outside the city.

Vice Presidents Rajkumar Dulani, Chandan Ruchandani, Prahlad Chetwani, and Arjun Gangwani appealed to all community members to strictly follow these guidelines to uphold Sindhi traditions.
