The city Congress unit has strongly condemned the negligence of the municipal administration after a tragic incident in Kanharpuri, Ward No. 34, where a youth lost his life on Tuesday night. The party submitted a memorandum at Kotwali police station, demanding immediate action against those responsible.
According to Congress president Kulbir Singh Chhabra, a 10-feet-wide pit had been left open for the past one and a half months for drain construction, without any barricades or warning signs. Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, 25-year-old Akash Sahu fell into the pit along with his motorcycle, leading to his death.

Chhabra squarely blamed the negligence of the municipal corporation and questioned the working style of BJP-led Mayor Madhusudan Yadav. He demanded that the victim’s family be given adequate compensation and a government job for the deceased’s wife. Additionally, Congress leaders sought the cancellation of the contractor’s license, registration of FIRs against concerned officials of the Municipal Corporation and PWD, and an independent inquiry into the construction work.
The Congress warned that if action is not taken within three days, the party will stage a protest and gherao the police station.
Several leaders, including divisional spokesperson Kamaljeet Singh Pintu, former mayor Hema Deshmukh, opposition leader Santosh Pilley, and general secretary Amit Chandravanshi, were present while submitting the memorandum.
